Hollywood: Crimes and Misdemeanors - Naomi Campbell

You could probably have a full time column devoted to Naomi Campbell and her diva antics.  She's in trouble again, this time with her chauffeur.  Let's take a quick look back at some of her highlights.

In 2000 Campbell pleaded guilty to assault of her assistant Georgina Galanis.  Naomi had allegedly assaulted Georgina with a telephone in a hotel room (stick around because the phone becomes a great motif) and had to attend anger management classes.  In 2005 she allegedly slapped her assistant Amanda Brack and beat her head with a BlackBerry (there's that phone again.)  Brack accused Campbell of assault, battery, and infliction of emotional distress.  You would think that it would be hard for Naomi to find people who would work for her after those affairs, but they were still lining up and still being abused. 

In 2006 Campbell was arrested for assaulting a housekeeper with a jewel encrusted cellphone (who is this woman always talking to, and do they ever get upset that she ends her conversations by suddenly beating someone with the phone she's talking on?) and had to attend anger management again.  What's with the BlackBerry and cellphone?  Has Russell Crowe taught us nothing?  If you want to act like a true star, you don't use a mobile, you pick up the heavy phone in the hotel room and hurl it at someone.  Russell really is the best at phone abuse, it's no wonder he won an Oscar.

 In 2008 she was arrested inside Heathrow airport on suspicion of attacking a police officer, which brings us to the present.  On March 2, 2010 Campbell's limousine driver, Miodrag Mejdina, filed a report with the NYPD that Naomi had slapped and punched him.  The story goes that Campbell got angry and tried to kick Mejdina when he wouldn't answer whether or not Naomi's boyfriend, Vlad Doronin, whom Mejdina also drives, was cheating on her.  Mejdina pulled over the car and tried to summon a cop but Campbel fled on foot.

The true facts have yet to surface on this story but there are two points I would like to make.  The first is that this might be the dumbest attack I have ever heard of.  Why would you ever attack a driver and then flee on foot?  You're running down the street and he's got the car.  Everyone knows the getaway man is the most important position in the gang.  When robbing a bank, you always make sure the guy driving the car has nerves of steel or is at least wearing a bulletproof vest.  If the police and Mejdina wanted they simply could have gotten back in the car and driven after Naomi as she ran down the street (most likely in heels.)

The second point is that some celebrities have serious problems they need to deal with and it seems that whatever rehab or management classes they attend are a watered down "celeb" version of what they really need.  Campbell has been to anger management many times, but it seems that the same person who is coaching her in those is also the doctor who helped Rip Torn through rehab.

The truth will never see the light of day now, as Mejdina issued an apology a few days later.  He claimed it was a misunderstanding and that it was "blown out of proportion."  Mejdina continued that he "got angry and overreacted."  Too bad we'll never hear the real facts, but it seems Mejdina would rather keep his job with Campbell's boyfriend.  Don't worry, give her two more years I'm sure another great story will pop up soon.
