The star-studded event was hosted by Pebble Beach Resorts and by corporate grants to BAMS by companies like Teva Neuroscience.
The three-day tournament, which featured friends of Walker and Pebble Beach Resorts, benefited Walker's public charity foundation, Band Against MS.
Owner of four platinum and three gold albums, Walker was diagnosed with relapse-remitting multiple sclerosis in 1996. Determined to combat the disease and improve the lives of those living with it, Walker established Band Against MS in 2003.
“Our first BAMS Charity golf event was more successful than we could have hoped for. Not only did we raise over $72,000 for BAMS, but we all got to spend three days in the California sunshine on the greatest golf courses in the world – we are thrilled to announce that our inaugural tournament was a huge success,” said Walker. "That's one of the reasons why I wanted to do a tournament. It's about getting the message out there to others who have the disease that they don't have to stop doing the things they love to do."
The event was held June 30th through July 2nd at the Pebble Beach Resorts in Pebble Beach, California, and featured three competitive rounds of golf, an awards ceremony, a performance by Walker and his band and a live auction which included autographed instruments and items from Miley Cyrus, Kevin Costner, Hank Williams Jr., Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney, Vince Gill, Charlie Daniels and The Eagles.
BAMS ultimate goals are to fund important research programs and provide educational information for those living with the debilitating disease.
Multiple Sclerosis, a disease that affects the central nervous system, plagues 2.5 million people.
