A very interesting case I must say. I understand both sides of the argument very well and frankly will be intrigued by what is correct in the eye of the law.
Personally, I think that Ms Rowling is being a little over the top in her comments and testimony such as
'It's really decimated my creative work over the last month,' she said. 'Again, it's very hard to describe to someone who's not engaged in creative writing, but you lose the threads, you worry if you will be able to pick them up again in exactly the same way.'
What I find to be very interesting is that she was very supportive of Mr Van Ark and his website however once it was known that he was making a lexicon Ms Rowling attitude turned towards him 180 degrees and has been quoted as saying 'I believe that it is sloppy, lazy and that it takes my work wholesale, verbatim. This book constitutes wholesale theft of 17 years of my hard work.'
While Ms Rowlings views this as a money grab by Mr Vander Ark I see it more as a over enthusiastic supporter who had a good idea. My personal feelings are that she is in the wrong and that Mr. Vander Ark's Lexicon should be published and if Ms Rowlings thinks she can do a better job, they by all means put out an Official Encyclopedia or Lexicon.
why should Van Arke or whatever his name be allowed to copy someone's hard work. Bloody greedy a..... the book should not be published.
It's Rowling's work. 20 years of labor. She has total rights to her labor.
I doubt if any writer would stand for what's been done to Rowling.
fought in your life, he is shameless opting to publish someone else's work he's an Am..... for you, you do all the work they take the glory. Do not settle, if its not in your favor appeal, appeal, appeal until you run out of courts to appeal, do not give in.....
