London - A set of hand-written fairytales penned by Harry Potter author Joanne K Rowling was sold for a staggering 1.95 million pounds (3.98 million dollars) at auction in London Thursday.
Proceeds from the sale at Sotheby's will go to Children's Voice, a charity co-founded by Rowling which campaigns for abandoned children, mainly in eastern Europe.
Rowling said recently that she had hand-written and illustrated just seven copies of the Tales Of Beedle The Bard, and that the books will never be published commercially.
The one copy which went under the hammer in London Thursday had been estimated to fetch between 30,000 and 50,000 pounds.
The others have been given away by Rowling to those most closely connected with the Potter books.
