Kevin McKidd's star rises after 'Rome'

In all fairness to Kevin McKidd, Ray Stevenson as Titus Pullo is still hands down my favorite actor to watch on HBO's wonderful, short lived series, "Rome."

However, the writers have done real justice to the emotionally strapped Lucius Vorenus this season, who is struggling with the crushing guilt of his wife's suicide. His is much more compelling this time around, and has many more facets that show off the honed acting skills of the classically handsome Kevin McKidd.McKidd is a native of Elgin, Scotland. His formal training was in Edinburgh, and his breakout role was in the drug hazed role of Tommy in "Trainspotting."Notably, back in 2004, he played James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell, the third husband of Mary, Queen of Scots, in the wonderful BBC mini-series "Gunpowder, Treason and Plot." Rent it.He has done numerous big movies and UK television productions, but his role in the joint HBO/BBC series "Rome," where his portrayal of the soldier and local politician Lucius Vorenus is what has put his career into overdrive.Now Variety and several sources report that McKidd has joined "Journeyman," as the lead in NBC's drama pilot about a man who travels back in time."Journeyman" follows a man who travels back in time to help fix people's lives, but by tweaking the past, these repercussions alter the future too.Sadly, as you have already gathered by my previously published ode to Stevenson (Titus-Pullo), "Rome" will end way too soon. I get depressed just thinking about it.
Blame the Oscars, or for whatever reasons, HBO had to skip a week of "Rome", causing my Sunday night fix to not be fulfilled, and my whole week thus far is totally shot.As "Rome’s" brilliant writers tweak history in the following weeks, we will soon learn every one's fate. Scheming Atia, bitter Servilia, Lucius' children and their unresolved anger, Titus and Eirene, that office slut Gaia where Titus and Lucius do their Abbentine business, Lide, that weird looking guy who is hitting on Lucius' oldest daughter, Timon, Anthony and Cleopatra, slave Posca, the fat guy that reads the news to everyone, I could go on. I miss Max Pirkis too, he was a great Octavian. As "Rome" comes to a close, we can only look forward to the careers of the key players stepping up as they are cast in television series and movies, and we hope to see our new favorites again soon. It's a damn shame they couldn't keep this series up.

I feel your pain. I don't know what I'll do without my Sunday night Pullo fix. Any word on future TV projects for Ray Stevenson? He seriously needs his own series....

Last night's show was something, Servilia's suicide scene was unbelievable, and Gaia's character has become much more riveting, we are pulling for Eirene and the baby to survive her diabolical plot! It's insane that this show ends this season.
