Even without the 'grifter factor' a lot of the homeless here in SF are just straight up heroin junkies.
Last summer I went to the mall. Got off the freeway and came to the light. A young guy wearing a sideways cocked baseball cap was working the cars using a fake gimp limp like his leg was deformed or something. Left the mall about an hour later and see the same guy walking down the street without the gimp walk wearing his bling.
