Desi, please get out of my country if you don't like it. I'll be glad to see you go. Maybe you can move to Mexico.

Are people burning Swedish and French flags in the street? Are people beheading people and video-taping it? No? Then maybe they aren't freaking out about it.

I see no reason to continue drinking anything from absolut or their new owner.

Would you be upset if the ad was absolut burqa and had every American female wrapped head-to-toe in a hefty bag? How about absolut wife and had every American female in the kitchen making a sandwich while barefoot and pregnant?

Methinks you would be upset with those.

how badly the Mexicans would like to go to war right now. Vodka or tequila, it wouldn't even be a rumble.

think the Mexicano Hispanos would appreciate a US Chevy ad singing ''See the USA in your Chevrolet.......'' with a map of the lower 48 to include The Baja (North and South), The state of Sonora and Chihuahua as the USA.
Me, I'd like to see it; in fact I wish it were a reality. At least the land would become useful and be worth something.

Incredible the ignorance and stupidity of 'United States people' (Yes, not American, America is a Continent.
All those States that you stole, cowardly will come back to Mexico, do not worry, you will not be sad you are used to loose all the wars where you go.
Unfortunately for you you have already at least 20 million of Mexicans recovering our territory and 20 million more will go to help them to put 'United States people' out if you try to do something stupid as usual.

YOU ARE A SHAME OF COUNTRY!!!!!

The map shown here did never exist with such perfectly-delimited borders.
Specially the south border of Mexico was pretty blury back then (Mexico, Nueva España back then included Guatemala, belize, etc). I'm also not too sure abouth Canadian-Us borders in the far west.
My 2cts.

always been the Rio Grande from El Paso and east. From El Paso just draw a line west across the north end of the Sea of Cortez to the Pacific coast. Not sure where Mexico ever had the idea they owned anything in this entire region. This isn't a Monopoly game you know. In addition, they would have to claim it in the name of Spain if they claimed it at all. At any rate, TOO LATE. Oh well.

It is kind of annoying for Americans to see a map that shows some part of their land given to another country. Well, i can understand that. But, how many Americans are aware of the fact that US Government is supporting some ethnic groups to have their own land and promising them lands which belong to other countries. If not, i suggest them to go and seek for the modified maps of 'Turkey' where their lands are shown as parts of Armenia or under possession of Kurds (not even a country!!). It is clear that what goes around comes back around!

The ad is divisive and will only hurt relations more than help. The old saying that two wrongs does not make a right so applies here!

Given the debate over immigration from Mexico to the USA, you wonder what Absolut was thinking. It's needless controversy to sell some vodka...and it's not even one of their better ads.

Mexico: Exporting poverty in an Absolut World!
Seriously, the US could destroy Mexico with one missile frigate. Why would a Mexican Ad agency wish to declare war against the US with an absurd and contra-factual ad such as this. Suicidal, amigo, suicidal!

' What makes this ad work in Mexico is that for many it represents a desirable future. '

Stay in Mexico and build the future of your OWN COUNTRY instead of crossing over and dragging our health care and education down to Mexican standards.

Well, it is true the US provoked the war with the Mexicans and the Mexicans lost a lot of territory. But the sad truth is the Mexicans were a colonial power with imperial ambitions in North America as well. The land belonged to Native Americans and the Mexicans and their predecessors, the Spanish, had no more legitimate claim to the territory than the Americans. A tiresome argument from a beaten people who can't seem to get it right in their own country even after multiple revolutions.

Oh, and Michael, you're absolutely right. The US did take the 'Mexican' lands from the real owners, the Native Americans. Just like racist, Israeli Zionists have violently appropriated the lands of the Palestinians. Difference is, the disposessed are still alive and the 19th century ended a long time ago.

I just cancelled my vacation to Mexico. Take that where it hurts. The Mexicans no more owned what is now Mexico than did we own what is now the US.

As a past loyalist to the Absolut vodka brand, I was shocked at the advertisement that Absolut ran in Mexico. As an American who is extremely concerned about the flood of illegal immigration into the US from Mexico, this advertisement was short-sighted, ignorant and tasteless. My allegiance is to my country, I will no longer support this brand. I certainly hope that Absolut gained a great number of new customers in Mexico to offset those of us in the USA who have NO ISSUE in abandoning a brand having so little consideration as to a Nation's boundaries. There is no shortage of Vodka Brands on the retail shelves - Hey Absolut . . . THAT was a stupid Marketing move!

signed . . . Absolutly over it

Augusto Seems Confused,Apr 8th, 2008 - 00:37:04

From his broken English it appears that Augusto is most likely from Mexico, or perhaps from another Latin American country. The issue being highlighted on this website is with regard to a potential boycott of Absolut brand vodka. From what I can gather, Augusto would not support such a boycott – but he does seem obsessed with making some ridiculous point. I would like to clarify a couple items however that Augusto seems to have some ignorance about. First, “America” is not a continent, the continent is actually called “North America”. North America includes Canada, The United States of America, Mexico and the various Central American countries. Secondly, if you might notice, the only country that has “America” in its title is The United States of America. This is the reason that educated people the world over refer to people from the United States as “Americans”. If you are from Mexico are you American? NO, you are Mexican and you are FROM North America. If you are from Canada are you American? NO, you are Canadian and you are from North America. If you are from the United States of America are you “United States people”? NO, you are AMERICAN. Like it or not – if you travel in any educated country in the world this is the perspective that people have. As for referring to the USA as a “shame of a country”, WE in the USA certainly have our issues . . . but I defy you to name one country that does not have some problems. Augusto, I hope this little lesson can help you understand who Americans really are.

A BystanderApr 8th, 2008 - 01:40:42

It's sad to see how so many of my fellow countrymen feel deeply offended by such a trivial advertisement. What right do we have to condemn such a thing? Is it the false sense of patriotism that we have just because we're 'liberating' the world? Is it because of these 'mongrel' Mexicans who didn't see our grand plan of Manifest Destiny and didn't roll out a red carpet and lied on the floor so their racial superiors would step all over them? Please everyone, tell me an ACTUAL reason as to why you really want to boycott Absolut instead of jumping on the bandwagon of unfounded hatred. It's a meaningless message in an advertisement that will never be shown here in the United States, so why bother about it?

Anti-Absolut!Apr 8th, 2008 - 01:47:46

I very much agree with Pissed off in the USA. He said it best.

ABSOLUT IS WRONG!

NOTE TO MEXICO AND SUPPORTERS: If you can't hang with what you got then how could you even BEGIN to manage a much largr portion of land? The Mexican people are fleeing a country that is so dangerously corrupt and full of poverty so how could you deal with what you say the US supposedly stole? Let's get this straight - The US won the war and bought the land fair and square so GET OVER IT!

No more will I even consider Absolut and I am letting everyone know to boycott as well. Let's hope Absolut wakes up and realizes their major mistake here.
