Postcard takes 33 years to reach destination in Germany

Aachen, Germany - A holiday postcard popped into a mailbox 33 years ago, finally arrived at its destination in Germany this week. The picture postcard was sent by a holidaymaker in the Bavarian Alps to a friend in the city of Aachen, 550 kilometres away. Both the sender and the recipient are long dead, the newspaper Aachener Nachrichten reported Tuesday. Posted on January 7, 1975, the card arrived at the address of the recipient, where his son now lives. It bore a 40 pfennig stamp, a kind not used since Germany converted to the euro in 2002. The German postal service could not explain why the postcard took so long to reach its destination. They suspect someone might have found it and sent it on its journey again.
