Vilnius - The 102-year-old Lithuanian man has become the Baltic country's oldest bridegroom when he married the 76-year-old woman.
'To my knowledge, we have not yet had a groom of such honourable age in Lithuania,' ceremonial master Kestutis Ignatavicius told the newspaper Lietuvos Rytas for a story on Tuesday.
'Perhaps, this is the record in Europe as well,' said Ignatavicius, who married Stanislovas Gridas, 102, and Brone Mikutiene, in Kaunas, the Baltic country's second largest city, on Saturday.
The previous oldest groom in Lithuania was an 84-year-old man who married in 1986, national statistics data showed. However, an 80-year-old woman was the oldest bride. Her wedding took place in 1991.
The couple have known each other since 1972, when Grigas was still married to his first wife, according to the newspaper. Their previous spouses have died.
Mikutiene helped around the house after Grigas' spouse passed away in 1992. And since this spring, she has been living in Grigas' house when Grigas suggested they get married.
'Stasys has a dexterous and rational mind,' Grigas' bride said. 'Not only does he have a good memory, but he also easily gets a grasp of things.'
