Summary
"Selma Blair" (born June 23 1972) is an American actress. After numerous supporting roles in the 1990s, she starred in the film "Cruel Intentions" and the short-lived TV series "Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane" in 1999. She has since had notable roles in Hollywood feature films such as "Legally Blonde" (2001), "The Sweetest Thing" (2002), and "Hellboy" (2004).
Biography
Early life
Blair was born "Selma Blair" in Southfield, Michigan, the daughter of Molly Ann Cooke. She has three older sisters, Katherine (a book publicist), Elizabeth, and Marie. Blair had a Jewish upbringing and was given the Hebrew name Batsheva. As a child, Blair attended Hillel Day School in Farmington Hills and Cranbrook Kingswood school in Bloomfield Hills. She studied at the University of Michigan, where she earned her bachelor's degree in 1994. She also studied with Stella Adler.
Career
Blair began acting in the 1990s, starring in the film "Cruel Intentions" (1999), opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar and Reese Witherspoon. Blair and Witherspoon later starred together in "Legally Blonde" (2001). She won the best kiss category at the Teen Choice Awards along with co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar for her role in "Cruel Intentions". Blair was originally the choice for Joey Potter in "Dawson's Creek", but wanted to go against type (later starring in Todd Solondz's "Storytelling"). The part later went to a second choice Katie Holmes.
Blair played a serial killer in the 2007 film "WAZ" with Stellan Skarsgard. She played a lesbian in "Feast of Love" with Academy Award winner Greg Kinnear and Academy Award winning director Robert Benton. In 2007/ 2008 Blair has five films coming out, including "Hellboy 2" in which she will reprise her role as Liz Sherman.
Blair has also been the face of Chanel, Gap (shot by Annie Leibowitz) and Miu Miu. Selma Blair has also written for "Interview" magazine. She has not only graced the cover, but also done interviews and written for the magazine with Kate Bosworth and Chloe Sevigny
