Unseen Movie Review: Young Adult

Unseen Movie Review: Young Adult
Why is it we like some films and we hate others? It’s not really because we don’t like the story but more often it’s because we don’t like how the story is told. In most cases films don’t really offer a unique or original thought.

Insidious – Movie Review

Insidious – Movie Review
This isn’t the greatest horror film ever made and it’s not the worst either.  Quiet creeping dread, flash visions and screeching violins are its weapons of choice, the film’s modus operandi and it works, there are moments of shock and things leaping out of nowhere, grinning dead people, creepy stuff.

Watchmen (Directors Cut) – Blu-ray Review - CLIPS ADDED!
Who watches the Watchmen?  Obviously, not enough folks to make it a massive hit.  I’d imagine that Alan Moore is laughing somewhere since he opposes film adaptations of his work.  The project has been in the works for over twenty years (which spawned some lawsuits) and now that it’s finally out what’s it all about? ... more

Passengers – DVD Review

Passengers – DVD Review
When you sit down to watch ‘Passengers’, you might get a distinct feeling of déjà vu - and no, not that Denzel Washington pic, but that feeling that you’ve seen this all before. You have. By the time the credits roll, ‘Passengers’ will be a blatantly obvious, if well-acted, dupe of another film that if I reveal would ruin the central surprise.  ... more

DVD Review: Little Children

May 1, 2007, 16:21 GMT

DVD Review: Little Children
A challenging and finely tuned film about the stifling suffocation that can be felt in middle-class suburbia, Todd Field’s sophomore effort after 2001’s ‘In the Bedroom’ which shares this film’s startling, emotional edge is able to one-up ‘American Beauty’ as the definitive contemporary film about the desire and lust hidden just under the quaint pretense of the all-American family life.

Hardy Candy features a plot that is disturbing and hard to watch, but performances that make it impossible to look away. The film is a griping psychological thriller set as a “cat and mouse” type game between a 14-year-old girl and the 32-year-old pedophile that she met online. ... more
