"Mary Carey" (born "Mary Ellen Cook" on June 15, 1980 in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American pornographic actress and was a candidate for Governor of California in 2003.

Biography

Mary Ellen Cook was conceived in the mental institution where her schizophrenic mother and mentally disabled father met. She was raised by her grandparents until her grandfather died of lung cancer when she was 16 years old and her grandmother then got progressively worse with Parkingson's disease as well as many other illnesses.She passed away when Mary Ellen was 23, right around the time Mary Ellen began running for Governor. Mary transfered from FSU after only one semester to FAU to take care of her grandmother and mother. Mary Ellen had not seen her father since the age of 7 which is when she moved with her grandparents and mother from Cleveland to Florida. She was told he passed away when she was 15 but then he contacted her through her website in August 2006. Mary Ellen saw her father for the first time in over 15 years in August of 2006, 1 month before her mother jumped off a 4 story building in Florida in an attempt to kill herself. She studied ballet and dance from the age of seven until she was 19 years old. She graduated in 1998 from the Pine Crest School, a Fort Lauderdale private preparatory school. At 19, she joined the dance team at Florida Atlantic University, where she was a student in the theater department.

On "The Howard Stern Show", she revealed that her father has cerebral palsy.

Pornographic film career

Shortly after becoming a sex worker, Carey entered the adult film industry as a featured entertainer in 1999. She is best known for her lesbian themed films. In addition to numerous adult movies, she has posed in adult magazines and has appeared in adult TV shows such as "Totally Busted" and "Sexy Urban Legends" on Playboy TV.

Carey claimed to have never received breast implants. Eventually, though, she admitted in her AVN "Fresh off the Bus" interview to having had augmentation.

Carey worked for Kick Ass Pictures for nearly three years. In December 2005, she signed an exclusive 2-year, 12-video contract with the now-legally embattled and cash-strapped Legend Video. She continues to make adult films for Kick Ass Pictures, Back End Productions, and her own production company, Mary Carey Productions.

Other work

At the age of 18 before embarking on her career in adult entertainment, Carey appeared in the Cable TV Series 'The Teen Files' hosted by Leeza Gibbons in the episode 'Teen Files: The Truth About Drinking (1999)'.

Carey was in the feature film "Pervert!" by Stag Films, an extended 'tribute' to the films of Russ Meyer. Similarly to Meyer's films, "Pervert!" is not a porn film "per se", but Carey does appear nude.

In December 2006, Carey sought a trademark on her name 'Mary Carey', to which the singer Mariah Carey has filed a motion of opposition, citing the possibility of confusion between the two individuals.

In July 2007, it was announced that Mary Carey will be the official hostess for (SwingFest 2008; World's largest Swingers Party and Lifestyle Convention) .

In December 2007, Carey announced that after her recent breast enlargement surgery (to 36DD) she will be auctioning off her former 36D breast implants on eBay. She said 'Now that I'm sober, I wanted a new physical state to go along with my new mental state,? said Carey. 'I thought the auction would be a great way to spread some holiday cheer and to make sure someone out there has a Mary Mary Christmas.? 20% of the proceeds were to go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to benefit breast cancer research.

Carey appears alongside Daniel Baldwin, Brigitte Nielsen and other celebrities in the VH1 reality series "Celebrity Rehab", which premiered in January 2008.

Politics

During the 2003 California recall election, she was an independent candidate, placing tenth in a field of 135 candidates. She ran on a ten (later expanded to eleven) point platform, making the following (again, somewhat tongue-in-cheek) promises:

Legalize same-sex marriage.

Tax breast implants.

Make lap-dances tax deductible.

Wire the California Governor's Mansion with live web-cams.

Create a 'Porn for Pistols' program to reduce the number of handguns.

Be a goodwill ambassador to attract business to the state.

Make those drawing unemployment insurance do jury duty for their pay.

Fight the attacks on the porn industry by John Ashcroft and the U.S. Department of Justice.

Allow bars to stay open until 4:00 A.M.

Address the AIDS epidemic.

Help the overcrowded and mismanaged prison system.

In June 2005, Carey announced her bid for Lieutenant Governor of California as an Independent in 2006. She also attended a Republican Party fund-raiser with the president of the company that produces her porn videos and announced that she is a Republican. Given her previous political record, however, it remains to be seen whether she (or Californians) will take her candidacy seriously. She would not be the first adult actress to win public office if her future bids are successful, as Italian porn-star Cicciolina was elected to the Italian Parliament.

She maintained on the FOX News Channel on March 16, 2006 that her pornofilms are not a negative to her political career, and maybe are even a positive. She implied that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and former Governor Reagan were helped in their political campaigns by their film careers. She also maintained that, unlike the films in which Schwarzenegger and Reagan starred, her films are about 'love'.

She has also said that she hopes to run for a major party nomination to be President of the United States upon her reaching the age of 35, per the minimum age requirement for United States presidents. The first election for which she would be eligible would be the 2016 presidential election.

On October 23, 2006 she announced she was dropping out of the California governor's race to be with her ailing mother, hospitalized in Florida since jumping off a four-story building the previous month.

Personal life

In April 2005, Carey was arrested in connection with a Lakewood, Washington, cabaret sting operation, for violating a city strip club ordinance that forbids dancers from touching themselves. She subsequently made a plea agreement and received a 19-month sentence, which was suspended on the condition that she was not charged with any other offense within one year.

Carey, who announced in December that she had lost weight, replaced her teeth and acquired new, size 36-D breasts and on August 9, 2006, on the steps of the Los Angeles County elections office to launch her 2006 gubernatorial campaign as a write-in candidate.

In January/February 2008, VH1 broadcast a reality TV series "Celebrity Rehab" which featured among other patients Mary Carey.

While on Celebrity Rehab, she stated that she would leave the porn industry and straighten out her life because of her mother's accident. In the reunion episode of the show taped approximately 6 months after leaving rehab, she stated that she has not made an adult movie since becoming sober and intends to never make another one. However, she continues to 'feature dance' in clubs, saying that she needs the money to care for her mother, but also hopes to stop doing this.

Mary has been linked to many celebrities and athlets. She dated NBA player Eddie Griffin in 2005 and 2006. She has also dated Bloodhound gang bass player Evil Jared just to name a few. Most recently she has been linked to New York Yankee's Melky Cabrera.
