Delroy Lindo Replaced In Gem Of The Ocean

Producers of Gem of the Ocean announced that Delroy Lindo has left the production due to creative differences and that he will be replaced by Anthony Chisholm. Chisholm appeared in earlier regional productions of the play. He has also starred in other August productions including Two Trains Running and Jitney as well as regional productions of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and Fences. source

New York: Delroy Lindo, LisaGay Hamilton, and Ruben Santiago-Hudson have joined the Broadway production of Gem of the Ocean. Lindo was nominated for a Tony and Drama Desk award for Joe Turner's Come and Gone. Santiago-Hudson won his Tony for Seven Guitars and LisaGay Hamilton starred as Grace in The Piano Lesson. Gem of the Ocean will open on November 11th and also stars Tony winner Phylicia Rashad. Set in 1904, the play begins on the eve of Aunt Esther's 287th birthday. When Citizen Barlow comes to her Pittsburgh Hill District home seeking asylum, she sets off with him on a spiritual journey to find a city in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. source
