"Beverly Johnson" (born 13 October 1952) is a former American supermodel.
Beverly Johnson rose to fame as the first African-American cover model of the American "Vogue" in August 1974. The cover was shot by Francesco Scavullo. Johnson's appearance on American newsstands was a landmark that helped expand the notion of beauty and it helped dispel the myth that white women would not buy a fashion magazine with a black model on the cover. She was not, however, the first African American model to appear on the cover of a Western fashion magazine. Career and Awards
Johnson was honored by Oprah Winfrey in her "Legends Ball" special.
In 2006, the New York Post Page 6 reported that she was being stalked by a former boyfriend in Los Angeles.
The July 4, 2006 edition on Page 6 of the New York Post reported that Johnson was the leading contender to replace Star Jones-Reynolds on The View. However, Jones-Reynolds was replaced by Rosie O'Donnell.
