BAGHDAD (UPI) -- An attack by about 30 Iraqi insurgents resulted in the Sunday deaths of five policemen in an ambush at a check point near Baghdad.
Iraqi police sources said the insurgents attacked the check point from four directions in al-Rustumiya, in a southeastern suburb of the capital.
They said the check point was near an Iraqi military academy that had turned into a U.S. military camp.
Sunday's attack came a day after around 10 people were killed and 40 others injured in four separate car bomb attacks in Baghdad and Mosul in northern Iraq.
In other violence, the U.S. army in Baghdad said Sunday three civilians were killed and several others were injured when armed insurgents fired 7 missiles in Fallujah, 31 miles (50 kilometers) west of Baghdad.
The army also said in a statement that an American marine was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen in al-Khalidiya in western Baghdad.
