US Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg to undergo chemotherapy

Washington - Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a member of the top court in the United States, said Tuesday she will be undergoing chemotherapy after surgery last month for pancreatic cancer. The 75-year-old Supreme Court justice said her surgery last month was a complete success and described the chemotherapy treatment as a precautionary move. Ginsburg, the only woman on the nine-member court, said she expected to continue working full-time. 'The treatments, which will commence in late March, are not expected to affect my schedule at the court,' Ginsburg said in a statement released by the court. 'Thereafter, it is anticipated that I will require only routine examinations to assure my continuing good health.' Ginsburg was appointed to the Supreme Court by former president Bill Clinton in 1993 and is considered one of its more left-leaning members. President Barack Obama would be charged with replacing Ginsburg on the court if she chooses to retire.
