LOOK UP: 'Global Poverty Act' +ObamaOct 17th, 2008 - 17:43:07

Since we are going to be driven in to bankruptcy by Barack why not build them the airport? When he pushes our debt above our GDP our money will be worthless, so ship it to Africa by the planeload. Pave the runways with my IRA… The best part is since as an American I will have no say about American priorities.

Here:

Obama bill: $845 billion
more for global poverty
Democrat sponsors act OK'd by Senate panel that would cost 0.7% of gross national product (ABRIDGED)

Sen. Barack Obama, perhaps giving America a preview of priorities he would pursue if elected president, is rejoicing over the Senate committee passage of a plan that could end up costing taxpayers billions of dollars in an attempt to reduce poverty in other nations.

The bill, called the Global Poverty Act, is the type of legislation, 'We can – and must – make … a priority,' said Obama, a co-sponsor. It would demand that the president develop 'and implement' a policy to 'cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015 through aid, trade, debt relief' and other programs.

When word about what appears to be a massive new spending program started getting out, the reaction was immediate.

'It's not our job to cut global poverty, these people need to learn how to fish themselves. If we keep throwing them fish, the fish will rot.' [...]

Many Americans were alerted to the legislation by a report from Cliff Kincaid at Accuracy in Media. He published a critique asserting that while the Global Poverty Act sounds nice, the adoption could 'result in the imposition of a global tax on the United States' and would make levels 'of U.S. foreign aid spending subservient to the dictates of the United Nations.'

He said the legislation, if approved, dedicates 0.7 percent of the U.S. gross national product to foreign aid, which over 13 years he said would amount to $845 billion 'over and above what the U.S. already spends.'

The plan passed the House in 2007 'because most members didn't realize what was in it,' Kincaid reported. 'Congressional sponsors have been careful not to calculate the amount of foreign aid spending that it would require.' [...]

'It is time the United States makes it a priority of our foreign policy to meet this goal and help those who are struggling day to day,' a statement issued by supporters, including Obama, said.

Specifically, it would 'declare' that the official U.S. policy is to eliminate global poverty, that the president is 'required' to 'develop and implement' a strategy to reach that goal and requires that the U.S. efforts be 'specific and measurable.'

Kincaid said that after cutting through all of the honorable-sounding goals in the plan, the bottom line is that the legislation would mandate the 0.7 percent of the U.S. GNP as 'official development assistance.'

'In addition to seeking to eradicate poverty, that (U.N.) declaration commits nations to banning 'small arms and light weapons' and ratifying a series of treaties, including the International Criminal Court Treaty, the Kyoto Protocol (global warming treaty), the Convention of Biological Diversity, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and the Convention of the Rights of the Child,' he said.

Those U.N. protocols would make U.S. law on issues ranging from the 2nd Amendment to energy usage and parental rights all subservient to United Nations whims.

Kincaid also reported Jeffrey Sachs, who runs the 'Millennium Project,' confirms a U.N. plan to force the U.S. to pay 0.7 percent of GNP would add about $65 billion a year to what the U.S. already donates overseas.

And the only way to raise that funding, Sachs confirms, 'is through a global tax, preferably on carbon-emitting fossil fuels,' Kincaid writes.

On the forum run by Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, one writer reported estimates of taxes from 35 cents to $1 dollar a gallon on gasoline would be needed.

'This is disgusting, sickening and angers me to the depths of my soul,' the forum author wrote. 'Obama wants us to support the world. I wonder how they intend to eliminate poverty. Most of the money always winds up in some dictator hands and in the U.N. coffers.'....

Behold: The End of American soverignty.

Kenyan dude in KenyaOct 17th, 2008 - 17:46:58

I'm a Kenyan dude in Kenya and therefore a big fan of Obama. I think it's a really bad to spend a fortune upgrading the Kisumu airport to accommodate Air Force One since the Nairobi airport has been accommodating 747s since the 70s. President Obama, c-in-c of the great United States Armed Forces, can always land in Nairobi airport and then take a Kenya Air Force or US Marines chopper to his dad's place near Kisumu.

The dude who thinks that we're dependent on American foreign aid should understand that all foreign aid in Kenya constitutes only 1.25% of our GDP (see CIA World Factbook).

During the recent Safaricom IPO, $1.74bn was raised from Kenyans in less than a month while only $1.15bn was raised from foreigners. The minimum investment for Kenyans was only $151.51 (google for 'Safaricom IPO Nets a Whopping Sh191 Billion' coz I'm not allowed to post links).

Foreign investment is only 2% of GDP while exports are only 6.75% of GDP (see CIA World Factbook).

So it is pretty obvious that Kenya is heavily dependent on ordinary Kenyans living in Kenya, and not on foreigners. That said, we encourage visitors and foreign investment so long as they train and hire locals, especially local CEOs, and partner with local investors.

Obama will be able to visit his genocidal cousins!Oct 17th, 2008 - 17:59:50

Obama's cousin is a genocidal islamist thug, but whatever... Hope 'n Change... Nothing for the media to report.. move along...

....Obama and his paternal 1st cousin Odinga, wanted to bring the whole of Kenya under Sharia law. Obama campaigned for Odinga in August of 2006,just before he filed with the US Federal Elections Commission for his presidential candidacy.

The idea was simply to have the Luo tribe, mostly Muslims, to take over Kenya from the inheritors of colonial power, the Kikuyu, and bring the country under Sharia law, kick out the Western investors in the nation that had made it one of the most stable nations in Africa, and supplant those Western investors with wealthy Arab oil money. It all failed. Then Odinga yelled election fraud, and put his Luo Islamofascists into the streets of Nairobi to “protest” by murdering, raping and maiming Kikuyu people, including the recent burning alive of a church full of Christians.

And the rest comes from fraudulent e-mails telling us that a long lost cousin died who wants to leave us millions…
So long as it sends you more Zippos and machetes… This is what Obamas cousin does with them:

Dozens burned alive in Kenya
ASSOCIATED PRESS

…Tuesday: Mob torches church in Eldoret sheltering hundreds of people fleeing election violence killing up to 50 people – including many children. Overall death toll surpasses 300.
First-hand stories from Kenya worry local families
Kenyan Canadians say they are hearing horror stories from relatives of burned-out houses, mob rule, massive looting and widespread shortages of food and water as Kenya continues its descent into chaos following controversial presidential election results.

`We never expected the savagery to go so far,’ police say in aftermath of massacre at church

NAIROBI—The charred bodies of up to 50 people — most of them women and children — lie alongside pots, pans and bags of clothing, the few remains of a church blaze ignited yesterday by a furious mob.

Some 200 displaced people had sought refuge in the Assemblies of God church in Eldoret, about 300 kilometres northwest of the Kenyan capital Nairobi, after their homes were torched in violence following contested elections last Thursday.

Yesterday morning, a mob of about 2,000 people arrived at the church and set it ablaze. Those attempting to flee the inferno were attacked by men wielding machetes.

George Karanja, 37, said his two children raised their hands as they left the church and were beaten with a cane, but not killed. His 90-year-old father was attacked with a machete, but survived.

“The worst part is that they were hacking people and then setting them on fire,” he said.

The attack revived traumatic memories in East Africa of the slaughter in churches of hundreds of thousands of victims of Rwanda’s 1994 genocide. The question facing Kenya is whether the politicians will lose control of the mobs, triggering a civil war.

“This is the first time in history that any group has attacked a church. We never expected the savagery to go so far,” said police spokesperson Eric Kiraithe.

Kenyan police said more than 70,000 people had been displaced nationwide and about 170 killed during four days of rioting. International wire services estimated the death toll has exceeded 300.

President Mwai Kibaki called for a meeting with his political opponents, a significant softening of tone for a man who rarely speaks to the press and who vowed to crack down on rioters.

But opposition candidate Raila Odinga refused, saying he would meet Kibaki only “if he announces that he was not elected.’’

Odinga accused the government of stoking the chaos, telling The Associated Press that Kibaki’s administration “is guilty, directly, of genocide.’’

Calls from civil society and leaders like Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize laureate Wangari Maathai for dialogue between the Kibaki and Odinga camps to end the violence have fallen on deaf ears. […]

The victims of yesterday’s massacre were members of Kibaki’s Kikuyu tribe, Kenya’s largest ethnic group.

Odinga is from the Luo tribe, a smaller but still major tribe that says it has been marginalized by the Kikuyu, who have dominated politics and business since independence from Britain in 1963.

Obama's Kenyan cousin is a islamist murdererOct 17th, 2008 - 18:15:46

Obamas genocidal cousin was helped in to power by Barack:

Odinga on Obama
Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga has said he is a cousin of US presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

Mr Odinga told the BBC's The World Today that Senator Obama's father was his maternal uncle. [...] Mr Obama's father came from the same Luo community as Mr Odinga. The Kenyan leader made the statement in an interview in which he discussed foreign interest in the political turmoil in his country.

Obama campaigns for Odinga:

...In August and September 2006, Senator Barack Obama traveled to South Africa, Chad, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Chad and Kenya as a congressional delegation of one (Codel Obama) (“Codel Obama” The Hill 9/7/2006) While in Kenya, Obama consistently appeared at the side of fellow Luo Raila Odinga (“your agent for change’), who was running for President. (“Senator Rebukes Kenya’s Corruption” Chicago Sun Times 8/29/2006) Because of his African heritage, Obama was treated as a virtual “Head of State” in Kenya While campaigning with Odinga, Obama was openly critical of governmental corruption under President Mibaki...

Obama’s partisan support for Odinga was considered so transparent, that the Kenyan Government spokesman, Alfred Matua, complained of political posturing to aid Odinga’s election chances: “It is very clear that the senator has been used as a puppet to perpetuate opposition politics,”(“Walking The World Stage” Newsweek 9/11/06) And, “…we earlier thought he was mature in his assessment of Kenyan and African politics,” Mutua told AFP.”We forgive him because it is his first time in the Senate and he is yet to mature into understanding issues of foreign policy,” he said.”(“Obama’s Kenya Honeymoon Ends Abruptly After Graft Rebuke” 8/29/06) Subsequently, Ambassador Ogingo Ogego made a public complaint to the US.(“Kenyan Envoy Kicks Off Diplomatic Row” My Africa 9/27/2006)

Raila Odinga subsequently lost the controversial (probably rigged) presidential election. In what appeared to many—including Human Rights Watch– as a coordinated strategy from the top, (“Violence We Fled was Planned, Say Kenyan Refugees” Reuters 1/26/2008 and “Kenya: Violence Planned Before Poll, Says Report” The Nation 3/18/2008) his Luo supporters (a core of whom call themselves The Taliban”(“Ethnic Gangs Rile Kenyan Slums” Newsweek 1/10/08)) engaged in what US Envoy Jendayi Frazer called “clear ethnic cleansing” (“US Envoy Calls Violence in Kenya ‘Ethnic Cleansing’” USA Today 1/30/2008) of the Kikuyu opposition.

Odinga’s supporters went on a rampage—burning Kikuyu homes and businesses, (“Ethnic Cleansing in Luoland” The Economist 2/7/2008) raping Kikuyu women, and murdering everyone in their path—including at least 50 Christian Kikuyu woman & children who had sought refuge in a church. They burned them alive. (“Mob Burns Kenyans Seeking Refuge In Church” CNN 1/10/2008)

“We have evidence that ODM [Odinga’s party] politicians and local leaders actively fomented some post-election violence,” Georgette Gagnon, acting Africa director for the New York based Human Rights Watch (HRW), said on Thursday.” (Violence We Fled was Planned, Say Kenyan Refugees” Ibid)

Fraudulent e-mails come from W. Africa, not KenyaOct 18th, 2008 - 08:18:01

To the dude who claims that we get our forex from fraudulent e-mails. Fraudulent e-mails come from West Africa, not Kenya. Please google the State department website for more information.

People in the west naively believe that they're better off that everybody in Africa thanks to the sensationalist western media that's obsessed with maximizing ratings and therefore advertising sales. I've studied in the UK for several years and I can tell you for a fact that the upper middle class and upper class in Kenya are much better off economically than your average American or Western European. Why would I wonna leave a country where a bottle of 300ml (10oz) Coca-Cola costs only 21 US cents despite the fact that my income and skills qualify me for permanent UK residency? Not to mention Nairobi weather that's 50-80F year round, friendly people, lots of friends, and lots of relatives.

Ok, fine, Kenya has a GDP of only $61.22bn (see CIA World Factbook). Let's say businesses have, on average, a pre-tax margin of 10%. That's a total pre-tax profit of $6.122bn. Now, any business in Kenya making less than $64,935 pays a 3% sales tax and no income taxes. There's this dude who started a bank that accepts deposits of any amount, no matter how small. His shares (7.5% of the bank) are worth over $100m in the local stockmarket yet he's only in his early 40s. You see, what's important is not GDP or GDP per capita, but market share and probability of success. Please google for Equity Bank Kenya. While you're at it, please google for the reasons why African banks haven't been affected by the reckless lending practices of western banks.

Why are Americans visiting private hospitals in India for surgical procedures? Please google The Economist website for more information. Why are Brits visiting private hospitals in Kenya for surgical procedures? Why are some Americans attending private universities in Kenya?

Obama has no association with Raila Odinga. Just because he was hosted by Gordon Brown, Nicholas Sarkozy, Angela Merkel, and Raila Odinga doesn't mean that he has any associations with them. The perpetrators of the terrible post-election violence that killed around 1,500 people will be prosecuted soon in an international criminal court. Please visit the Daily Nation website for more information.

To the Kenyan chamber of commerce poster.Oct 18th, 2008 - 15:46:00

“Obama has no association with Raila Odinga.”

They are cousins and Obama campaigned for him when he visited Kenya. That is just the fact. Obama openly attacked the Kibaki administration in public meetings with Odinga at his side and Obama arranged for Odinga to receive nearly $1 million in campaign contributions from Obama fund-raisers and donors to assist Odinga in his 2007 presidential campaign in Africa.

When Odinga lost by about 200,000 votes there were tribal riots that targeted Kibaki’s constituents and Christians and killed about a thousand in the most brutal ways possible. Obama designated a personal aide as his direct contact for the 2007 Kenyan presidential campaign of Raila Odinga, who later was appointed prime minister after his election loss was followed by widespread, deadly violence that destroyed or damaged many Christian churches.

One wonders whether Obama will peruse a similar strategy of rioting and murder if he doesn’t win in the USA.

Obama has no association with OdingaOct 19th, 2008 - 12:42:22

Obama isn't Odinga's cousin. You see in Kenya and in many other African countries, it's common to use the word cousin, brother, sister, uncle, aunty, son, daughter, daddy, etc. to address someone who isn't a relative or friend. It's the equivalent of 'sir' or 'ma'am' in the States, and 'love' or 'darling' in the UK, and 'mate' in Australia.

When Obama visited Kenya in 2006, he met with Odinga. Are European and American leaders who have ever met with the current Russian leadership guilty of Russia's invasion of Georgia? Is FDR guilty of Stalin's genocide in Russia just because they met? Obama criticized the Kibaki government. So have European and American leaders. Don't you believe in free speech? It's a blatant GOP lie that Obama made a $1m campaign contribution towards Odinga's campaign. Where's the proof?

As I said earlier, the perpetrators of the terrible post-election violence that killed around 1,500 people will be prosecuted soon in an international criminal court just like Milosevic and Karadic. We're looking forward. Please visit the Daily Nation website for more information. Let's not even get started on America's terrible crimes against humanity, especially during the cold war.

Fed up with Kenyan MP'sNov 4th, 2008 - 12:26:45

Kenyan MP's want...

I really can't believe that MP's are thinking when Obama will be the next president of the USA they can expect a huge amount of money from the USA... which directly will flow of course into their own pockets. The MP's who called themselves 'politicians' are only busy with their own agenda. THEY ARE A SHAME FOR KENYA. Politics is all about servicing the people of your country who have voted you!

The low and middle class is everyday suffering because the Old Boys Network in Nairobi is still closing their eyes for the 88% young Kenyans who are fed up with them and are desperate.

Let them first promise what they did before the post-election chaos:
1. Free education system
2. New consititution

Nothing has changed... the rest will be history I am afraid of. More killings, poverty and chaos again.

Everybody is misleaded again by them. Let the Waki report bring justice and put them in jail.
