'What a surprise!! Nothing else was working for him, so he is trying this!'
The old fellow is a point ahead in the polls with someone who has spent 65 million dollars more then he has. I'de say that things are working well for Mac.
'The campaign ad portrays McCain as the 'original maverick' and highlights his reputation as an independent during nearly 30 years in Congress,'
So McCain has 30 years in congress and 20 years in the Navy before that. 50 years of service.
Obama had 143 days in the senate before he decided he was ready to become president of the USA. Of course he did attend the 'damn America' church for 20 years...
This is from the Huffington post of all places:
-----------------------------------------------
Why Obama Can't Win
....To earn the Democratic nomination, as Fred Thompson points out, Obama ran as George McGovern without the experience, a left-of-center politician who would meet unconditionally with Iran, pull us precipitously out of Iraq, prohibit new drilling for oil, and grow big government in Washington by all but a trillion dollars. In his general election TV ad debut, however, Obama pirouetted like Baryshnikov with a commercial Mike Huckabee could have run in a Republican primary. Obama now emphasizes his commitment to strong families and heartland values, 'Accountability and self-reliance. Love of country. Working hard without making excuses.' In this yet unwritten chapter of his next autobiography, Obama tells us he is the candidate of 'welfare to work' who supports our troops and 'cut taxes for working families.' The shift in his political personae has been startling. Obama has moved right so far and so fast, he could end up McCain's Vice-Presidential pick.
General-election Obama now billboards his doubts about affirmative action. He has embraced the Bush Doctrine of pre-emption saying, 'I will do everything in my power to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon...everything.' He tells his party 'Democrats are not for a bigger government.' Oil drilling is a consideration. His FISA vote and abandonment of public campaign finance introduce us to an Obama of recent invention. And as he abandons his old identity for the new, breeding disenchantment among his formerly passionate left-of-center supporters and, equally, doubts among the center he courts, he risks becoming nothing at all, a candidate who is everything and nothing in the same moment.
-----------------------------------------
In past campaigns, there have been extremely artful pivots to the center among candidates of both parties. Obama's turn to the right was an unmitigated disaster. Placing himself above other politicians meant that Obama - to maintain his 'authenticity' - needed to stick to his leftist principles and positions in order not to ruin his brand.
Alas, Obama could never come close to winning running on the same platform he ran on in the primaries. McGovern tried it and got slaughtered. Hence, the wild lurch to the center that confused even his most rabid acolytes, angered the left, and put off the great center of American politics who recent polls have shown moving toward McCain.
And what of McCain? The contrast is startling:
------------------------------------------------------
In the defining moment of his life, McCain was willing to give everything for one thing, and that one thing was his country. Contrast that with Obama, who has told America that he is 'a proud citizen of the United States and a fellow citizen of the world.' Obama is the talented salesman who seduced one state after another saying 'Iowa, this is our moment,' 'Virginia, this is our moment,' 'Texas, this is our moment,' and then tells Europe, 'people of Berlin, people of the world, this is our moment.' How many times can Barack Obama sell the same moment to everyone, before he becomes Mel Brooks in 'The Producers'? Who is Barack Obama? His campaign, as it reupholsters him before our eyes, says we can never know -- perhaps because Barack Obama does not know himself.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Perhaps many of us have underestimated the sheer power of McCain's life story, it's hold on the nation and effect on the voters. Certainly, as Castellano points out, the contrast with Obama is striking in that regard. McCain's trial by fire says something very profound, very deep about the man that is resonating with voters as they compare the two candidates. With a spectacular lack of success, the left (not the Obama campaign) has tried to paint McCain as a panderer, a flip flopper, and a man without character or conscience.
On the other hand, McCain's attacks against Obama are biting, caustic, sarcastic, and ringing true which is why he is staying close to Obama and why, in the end, all the re-invention Obama can muster isn't going to matter:
------------------------------------------------------------
' John McCain is a complete and well-formed man. Barack Obama is completing himself. As he moves to fit what he perceives to be a right-of-center country, he distances himself from the simple and authentic passion of a young candidate who once pledged 'Change We Can Believe In.'
-------------------------------------------------------------
The major difference between them is in the core of the two candidates; one, rock solid while the other is molten - still forming under pressure and not yet completed.
..if Johnny is more interested in running HIS campaign than winning..
or a brain
Shelby Steele's recent book, 'A Bound Man: Why We Are Excited About Obama and Why He Can't Win' is a great discussion of the lack of substance which adds up to Obama.
Everyone's on the book bandwagon, and then some will proclaim it's the gospel!
No, sh*t, Batman. What else is new? I suppose next McCain is going to tell us the sky is blue. To the senile old fart everything is new, every day.
...if you are unable to inform yourself and need the childish retort, because a cogent thought is so far away for you, heck, be my guest, but certainly, you can come up with something better than get a life or brain.
Quick, put down the porn book, let go of yourself, pull up your pants, run upstairs and ask your mom if SHE has a better retort. Heck, we won't even know it's hers!
I always knew that McLame was nothing but a RINO, and now he's showing his true colors, by pandering to the anti-American, defeatocrat, whining libnazi lies being perpetrated by the communist MSM, about how bad off our country supposedly has gotten during the Bush admin. Nothing could be further from the truth, because the country is actually doing far better now than ever before, especially under any past demonrat admin. I realize that what I say as the truth is not acceptable to the fanatic, lunatic left wing fringe, but it doesn't make me wrong to say it.
It is obvious that you have in-formed yourself. Now, go get an education. Learn to think. That is IF you can put down the Bong long enough to find your underwear. As for childish retorts, what's the matter, somebody doing it better than you? Jealousy is a lousy counter-productive emotion, lamebrain.
Tzlk about childish retorts! What the he** is SP's, a porno retort? If anything, he is the king of childish retorts! He must have spent most of his childhood in the basement as he seems to be so obcessed with it. McCain is finally beginning to realize he better be putting some space between him and Bush if he wants to make a better showing in the polls - not win, mind you, just a better showing.
'I always knew that McLame was nothing but a RINO,'
LOL. The days you could get away with that are over. Even the 'deliverance' republicans have had a good look at Obama and gotten their minds right.

'The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows the race for the White House is tied once again-- Barack Obama and John McCain each attract 44% of the vote. However, when 'leaners' are included, its McCain 47% and Obama 46%. '
So yeah, considering that Obama has practically spent the gross national product of Germany on this election, yeah pretty good for the 'ol boy.
Bill Clinton fails to give Barack Obama his approval as president
Bill Clinton has pointedly declined to state whether Senator Barack Obama was qualified for the White House, exposing a continuing rift at the top of the Democratic Party. [...]
A rift between Mr Obama and Mr Clinton could severely damage the Illinois senator's chances of prevailing over Mr McCain. After Mrs Clinton reluctantly conceded, Mr Obama's aides made clear that rebuilding bridges with Mr Clinton was a priority.
Bad blood could also endanger Mrs Clinton's hopes of winning the White House in 2012 should Mr Obama lose in November. The former First Lady is due to campaign for Mr Obama in Nevada on Friday and Florida on Aug 21.
Any suggestion that she was not doing everything she could to help Mr Obama could seriously damage her. So too could the suggestion that she could not control her husband, who often strayed off message on the campaign trail.
Mr Clinton was accused by allies of Mr Obama though not the candidate himself of playing the race card against his wife's rival.
Without being asked the question, the former president vehemently denied this. 'I am not a racist, I never made a racist comment. And I didn't attack him personally.'
Mr Clinton was castigated for comparing Mr Obama's South Carolina primary win with those of Jesse Jackson, who was also black, in 1984 and 1988. 'The South Carolina thing was twisted for deliberate effect by people who weren't for Hillary,' Mr Clinton told ABC.
'It was OK with me but, you know, these people don't have an office in Harlem. They haven't lived the life I have lived....
The interview his first since Mrs Clinton's defeat came as Mr McCain's campaign echoed Mr Clinton's April remark that it was Mr Obama himself who was playing the race card.
(As opposed to SP4, who comes off as an unmitigated kiss-ass)
McCain is basically complaining here about Bush's leadership, as well as the first 6 years when the GOP ran Congress essentially unencumbered even by a veto. Now the GOP'ers throw up roadblocks to everything, just to blame the Democrats for something. How can Bush, in the face of this, speak at the convention? What would he talk about? The mistakes McCain identified?
Obama talks about the future, while McCain complains about the past.
And SP4 has a visibility problem with his head up Bush's rear end. Cheney is not even going to attend the GOP convention, apparently. They probably thought he'd accidentally shoot someone. Cheney is the epitome of Bush's policy, and would serve as an unwelcome reminder of what got us into the current mess; economic, diplomatic, and military. The Iraqi government has had funds to spend since 2005 on reconstruction; yet the U.S. taxpayer has been footing the bill. Meanwhile, the Iraqi leadership cannot even agree on elections.
edition.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/08/05/cheney.convention/
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Vice President Cheney will be a no-show at the Republican convention in Minnesota, Republican officials said, citing a desire by Sen. John McCain's campaign to turn the page on the Bush-Cheney years.

Soaring oil prices will leave the Iraqi government with a cumulative budget surplus of as much as $79 billion by years end, according to an American federal oversight agency. But Iraq has spent only a minute fraction of that on reconstruction costs, which are now largely borne by the United States.
The unspent windfall, which covers surpluses from oil sales since 2005, appears likely to reinforce growing debate about the approximately $48 billion in American taxpayer money devoted to rebuilding Iraq since the American-led invasion.
In one comparison, the United States has spent $23.2 billion in the critical areas of security, oil, electricity and water since the 2003 invasion, the report said. But from 2005 through April 2008, Iraq has spent just $3.9 billion on similar services.

Iraqi lawmakers failed again Tuesday to resolve a dispute about power-sharing proposals for the oil-rich city of Kirkuk.
'Now the GOP'ers throw up roadblocks to everything, just to blame the Democrats for something. '
Yeah, they tried to throw up a road block on congresses vacation so they could get a bill passed to lower gas prices. The democrats went on vacation anyway.
'Obama talks about the future, while McCain complains about the past.'
Obama talks about everything. Obama promises everything. Obma [promises everything else too. He promises the opposite of what he promised yesterday and will make some more promises tomorrow that contradict the promises he made today. Promising isn't doing. Obama hasn't DONE anything other then sit in the damn America church for 20 years and marry a Klingon.
'Cheney is not even going to attend the GOP convention, apparently. '
He isn't running. He is retiring. Running against him isn't going to help.
'. Meanwhile, the Iraqi leadership cannot even agree on elections.'
They were debating them today.
'appears likely to reinforce growing debate about the approximately $48 billion in American taxpayer money devoted to rebuilding Iraq since the American-led invasion.'
Congress should come back from vacation and pass legislation making the Iraqis pay more of the reconstruction, and letting Americans drill for oil here. In case you didn't know, congress passes budgets, not the president. Congress is controlled by the democrats.
'Iraqi lawmakers failed again Tuesday to resolve a dispute about power-sharing proposals for the oil-rich city of Kirkuk.'
That seems to be all you have left to demand that we surrender on. You went for ages opposing the surge, demanding immediate withdrawal and surrender. Had we paid attention to you things would be disastrous here and in Iraq.
Promise of peace as Baghdad humbles rebel army
By Sabrina Tavernise
THE Mahdi Army, once the biggest defender of poor Shi'ites in Iraq, has been profoundly weakened in a number of neighbourhoods across Baghdad, in an important, if tentative, milestone for stability in Iraq.
It is a remarkable change from recent years, when the militia, led by the anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, controlled a broad swath of Baghdad, including local governments and police forces. But its use of extortion and violence began alienating
much of the Shi'ite population to the point that many quietly supported American military sweeps against the group.
Prime Minister Nouri Kamal al-Maliki struck another blow this spring when he led a military operation against it in Baghdad and in several southern cities. The shift, if it holds, would solidify a transfer of power from al-Sadr who had lorded his once broad political support over the government to al-Maliki, who is increasingly seen as a true nationaleader.
It is part of a general decline in violence that is resonating in the race to be the next American president, as well as in Iraqi politics: John McCain argues that the advances in Iraq would have been impossible without the increase in American troops known as The Surge, while Barack Obama, who opposed the increase, says the security improvements should allow a faster withdrawal of combat troops.
The Mahdi Army's decline coupled with an al-Sadr-imposed ceasefire last year also means that the Iraqi state, all but impotent in the early years of the war, has begun to act the part, taking over delivery of some services and control of some neighbourhoods.
'The Iraqi government broke their branches and took down their tree,' said Abu Amjad, a civil servant who lives in the northern Baghdad district of Sadr City, once seen as an unbreachable stronghold of the group. The change is showing up in the lives of ordinary people. The price of cooking gas is less than a fifth of what it was when the militia controlled local gas stations, and kerosene for heating has also become much less expensive. Shopkeepers and market traders say they no longer have to pay protection money to militiamen. In some cases, employees with allegiances to the militia have been fired or transferred.
In a further sign of weakness, Shi'ite tribes in several neighbourhoods are asking for compensation from militia members' families for past wrongs.

A Letter to The United States Congress and to The American People
Americans have lost their way by choice and coercion by those that wish to have it all. Those Americans that have plenty are not bothered by the confusion and rape of the land and its people. The ones that outnumber the wealthy are the ones that suffer in America. The idea of a Republic of America was originally thought to be a perfect form of government, but the ones that made the choice to write on paper their ideas for a perfect form of government, were themselves imperfect, which did not make for a perfect document. The document called the Constitution is a promise to Americans to protect and to serve our Nation with truth. That has not happened, thus the discord within our nation to Americans.
Our Nation, our Homeland has been sold, raped, and ravaged by many outsiders and insider traitors, that have allowed our eagle our National symbol to be locked in a cage with little sustenance. Our Star has been buried in the sand with the trash of other nations.
This is not acceptable, and will be resolved. Our current Congress has forsaken our nation by giving little and taking so much for themselves and their financial supporters. Congress has allowed Capitalist Businesses from within and out to take over our Nation and rule by the power of selfish money and lies.
Our Great and once powerful Military is also ruled by those that give false and deceptive orders and not true commands. They, the soldiers of our fortunes are engaged in ambiguous battle campaigns under False Flag counter intelligence propaganda. Human lives on all sides are dying for the few that have lost their way thru choice.
Our President, our leader of our Nation has with his advisors and financial empire brokers, reinforced the ultimate crime to humanity by lying to himself, his family and his country. Our business leaders have lied to our Nation and prostituted our ingenuity to others for unnatural profit.
There are too many Americans that have some or little or none, and that Ladies and Gentlemen is not acceptable. Congress and others have failed to provide even the basics for our Nation to thrive. Too many selfish secrets, which many are known amongst a few is tearing our Nation and Planet apart. And allowing those that know what lies behind the looking glass, to control the masses at will.
There is too much advertised hatred and racial prejudice that is fed by ignorance and choice. Religions have taken front seat to freedom and truth, thus confusing those that wish to know the truth by self choice.
On September 11, 2008, in Los Angeles, California, United States of America, we Americans can and will make a choice to free our Eagle from its cage of captors, allowing it to be stronger and fly higher than ever before, and unearth and restore our Star to its rightful brilliance from the sand of trash of other Nations, and take back our country from those that have stolen it from us all. Annuit Copetis.
We have learned from the past, and we have learned from the present, so now we will make a choice to either continue with America as is, or Change it to a True Republic that truly represents the sincere interests of it people and other Nations. It is not an impossible task to overcome, all it takes is an honest choice and the will to sacrifice.
We are a Legion of many, who will live a life of peace, and have respect for all living things, while having considerations for those who are different, and look for ways to truly accommodate those who are slow in understanding.
We support the poor, helpless, and defenseless people. We support the freedom of Women, we support the sane treatment of animals and the environment, we support the freedom of religion and expression. We do not support ignorance, period.
We are a growing nation of people that encourage all Americans to become part of the New American Republic!
