Acquittal does not ensure release of Guantanamo detainees

Washington - Guantanamo detainees can be held indefinitely even if they are found not guilty in military trials, the Pentagon said Tuesday. There are about 20 detainees who have been charged with war crimes or other offenses set to go on trial at the prison facility at the US naval base on Cuba. A military jury has begun deliberations in the trial of Salim Hamdan, Osama bin Laden's former driver charged with conspiracy and supporting terrorism. If the jury finds him not guilty 'we would consider him an enemy combatant and still a danger and would likely still be detained for some period of time thereafter,' Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said. Hamdan faces life imprisonment if convicted in the first trial to get underway under President George W Bush's military commissions. Morrell said Hamdan will remain classified as an enemy combatant regardless of the outcome of his case.

This is the way it should be, so stop your friggin bitching about it.
We believe that the car driver is guilty, even if he is not guilty. This is American justice at it's best. The concept is so simple and basic-
guilty but not guilty- that even a neconantherthal can understand it.
