I had a Canadian friend who was taken seriously ill resulting in surgery and weeks in hospital in the U.S., then flown back home in a medical plane with a private nurse to the tune of over a million dollars - everything paid by the Canadian health system!
Your friend must have purchased extra travel insurance. The Canadian health care system would not otherwise have done such a thing as you have stated. My father in law was a healthy, fit man, with no risky behaviors. It was just the luck of the draw that got him. Anyone who travels to a foreign country should purchase extra insurance.
He probably did have extra insurance, but, regardless, it and the health plan in Canada paid EVERY penney. And I'm sure enough has been pointed out on this subject! McCain is the topic and his stupidity in endorsing such lame campaign messages. He better stick to telling what he can do, not knocking the other guy with silly crap - it's making him the butt of constant jokes........

I have a house in Canada and Canadian relatives and YES, they do come to the United States to get health care. There are waiting lists, sometimes as long as 10 months for MRI's and chemotherapy. Americans are not told that they have cancer in one breath and in the next that they have to wait 10 months for treatment. Usually from a foreign doctor who doesn't speak their language who they were not allowed to chose.

The McCains have adopted a Bangladeshi child who needed many operations that she wouldn't have gotten in her own country and have raised her to be a straight, decent and loved young lady. They have also covered the hospital bills of a friend of theirs who had done the same thing with the child that they adopted. These things don't get reported like they would with Barack Obama because they are personal and not done to curry favor with the media. McCain has routinely visited our wounded, you don't hear about it because he isn't doing it to get attention. He is doing it because it is right.
Obama demonstrated that if there aren't cameras around to cover the visit to our wounded soldiers then he sees no point in doing it. He doesn't care about them, just the attention it will bring him. He is in it for himself alone.

He was supposed to go to a hospital Dan. When he was told that no cameras were allowed he blew it off to go work out alone.
Nooooo... he wanted to take his military advisor. that's it, and they told him no campaign staff, so he didn't go to THAT visit with the troops, he's been to several others.
Oh, and one more thing, in the footage that McCain's own comercial shows, there are troops IN THE BACKGROUND!!! so much for going to the Gym alone.
