Older Talkback
and where does it say he was in on the reasoning behind Obama not visiting the hospital, or just his personal assessment of the situation? Too many people are eager to talk about something they don't know as much about as they think!
Barack Obama's perfectly staged 'I am President of the World' tour may have exposed a tragic flaw in the Man Who Would be President. He canceled a plan to visit wounded American soldiers at the Landstuhl Medical Center in Germany.
As is often said when the mighty fall, it was the cover-up that caused Sen. Obama the most damage. Initially, Obama operatives tried to blame the Pentagon.
'We learned from the Pentagon last night that they viewed the visit as a campaign event,' read the statement from Obama advisor retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Scott Gration.
The Obama camp's lame attempt to blame the military, prompted this Pentagon response: 'Senator Obama is more than welcome to visit Landstuhl or any other military hospital around the world - but he has to do so, just as any other senator has to do, in his official capacity. It is not acceptable to do so as a candidate.'
Sen. McCain's campaign produced an ad critical of Obama's finding time to pose for a basketball photo op with the troops while canceling time with wounded soldiers. With criticism escalating, Obama finally admitted that it was not the Pentagon who scrubbed the visit.
Still, the candidate will not accept responsibility for turning his back on wounded American troops in Germany.
When the Pentagon made it clear that Sen. Obama could not be accompanied by campaign staff or the media, Obama said, 'That triggered a concern that maybe our visit was going to be perceived as political.' How could anyone conclude that Obama's trip, accompanied by hundreds of media, publicists, make-up artists, the all-important Teleprompter technicians, staffers, wannabe vice-presidential nominees and groupies was 'political'?
Sen. Obama's and his operatives' knee-jerk outrage over Sen. McCain's 'time for basketball, no time for wounded soldiers' ad has become standard from a campaign that considers any criticism, no matter how valid, of their candidate as blasphemous.
'The Senator went to Walter Reed; he knows the rules,' they bellow in their futile attempt to suggest Obama spends every extra minute with the wounded.
If Obama 'knew,' then why did they schedule a stop at Landstuhl during a political trip? Even if he didn't know, why not keep his commitment?
Obama's story doesn't add up; his armor has another chink. The man who would be commander in chief doesn't seem to enjoy being around American troops. Last month, he canceled a military base visit. His troop basketball photo op was said to be long enough only to get the shot and move on....

...they don't know as much about as they think!
MSNBC:
' ...A U.S. military official tells NBC News they were making preparations for Sen. Barack Obama to visit wounded troops at the Landstuhl Medical Center at Ramstein, Germany on Friday, but 'for some reason the visit was called off.'
One military official who was working on the Obama visit said because political candidates are prohibited from using military installations as campaign backdrops, Obama's representatives were told, 'he could only bring two or three of his Senate staff member, no campaign officials or workers.' In addition, 'Obama could not bring any media. Only military photographers would be permitted to record Obama's visit.'
The official said 'He (Obama) was more than welcome. We were all ready for him.'
with any politician 'photo op'. It's just so much crap - seeing a president or governor at a disaster site 'helping' with a shovel in hand, etc., They aren't kidding anyone, and besides, they and all their entourage just cause a lot of headaches! It they insist on being at a particular site, go there quietly or view from the air.
is going down the cra**er, jobs are falling by the wayside, people are hurting, but we need to spend countless hours debating whether or not Obama did or did not do the right thing regarding visiting this hospital -our priorities are so twisted as to be almost laughable. And now to boot, Paris Hilton has made a fool of McCain and his childish campaign ad.
Maybe she WOULD be the better candidate!!!
'They aren't kidding anyone, and besides, they and all their entourage just cause a lot of headaches! '
The troops, who were wounded fighting for the country were looking forward to seeing Obama and he blew them off because he couldn't turn it in to a photo op. It just shows that he only cares about himself.
'is going down the cra**er, jobs are falling by the wayside,'
Well his plan for the economy stinks as well but the subject was him being a selfish jerk.
'And now to boot, Paris Hilton has made a fool of McCain and his childish campaign ad.'
I think McCain did an injustice to Paris Hilton by comparing her to Obama. At least Paris Hilton is qualified to do the job she has...
Obama thinks he can be king of the world after 143 days in the senate.
who knows what the troops wanted, what Obama wants.....gotta get me one!
'who knows what the troops wanted, what Obama wants.....'
Can only go on what they said.
...the momentum Obama had as a celebrity is ending. He's not the negro sensation he was even 3 weeks ago.
Somewhere between now and November he has to stake out his positions and define them. Even with a libnazi softball press, this is not going to be the cake walk the last 6 months was for him.
And McCain is so busy telling what Obama will and won't do, that he isn't letting us know what his plans are most of the time, but if he's elected, hopefully he'll have someone better than Cheney and Rumsfeld to guide him along - he'll need it!
As opposed to the big 'plan' of Hope 'n Change(TM).

McCain has more of a spine than Obama when it comes to cracking down on big corporations and corruption. But the corporate media actually likes Obama so they won't attack him or criticize him. They go after McCain more because they know he is the one to fear because he will not let them get away with all the crap they are currently getting away with.
Socialized private profits and public debt paid for by taxpayers who have absolutely nothing anymore to show for all their hardwork.
