Four killed in California junkyard killing

Los Angeles - Four people have been shot to death in a grizzly workplace murder spree at a junkyard in the central California town of Santa Maria, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday. Police took a suspect into custody. The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon when a man armed with a semiautomatic pistol starting shooting at the junkyard, sending workers and customers fleeing for their lives, police said. 'There were a lot of customers on the property, and they were running outside,' said the LAPD Lieutenant Dan Ast. 'It was a pretty chaotic situation.' Santa Maria police have not stated a motive in the killing, although Police Chief Danny Macagni told reporters that the attack appeared to be a case of 'workplace violence.' Police were called to the scene following reports of gunshots coming from the wrecking yard on the edge of town. They found four bodies dispersed on the property and chased a man over a fence to take him into custody.
