There's an old saying: 'If you remember the sixties, then you weren't there.' Of course that was way before your and SPdrug addict's time. I do hope that I don't have to explain the meaning of the phrase to you.

An economical theory brought forward by SP4 needs some clarification by that grand master of economical science for me to understand.Tell me SP4 ,if you are right and the exports from the USA are booming, the logical conclusion should be that unemployment would drop, right ?Well,it isn't ...
Perhaps the answer resides in one of your other statemetns;the US labor force being the most productive on earth .Why not,let us consider that to be true,it is a complement to the american workers I'll gladly hand out.Now tell me who profits from that ?The average lifestyle from the american worker has lowered during the last decade ,you can scream liar to me as long as you like,it is there for all your workers to experience .More stress,wal-mart type contracts instead of GM-standards,less buying power ,etc. The effect of those have been attenuated by the dropping price of high tech consumer goods like plasma TV's computers,TV,etc. But look at the price of basic goods like food, fuel, housing, etc, those are on the rize .The average salary of your workers ,responsible for the rise of productivity is appaling .meanwhile top executives have seen their salaries rising by an average 10 percent very year for the last decade .The gap between rich and poor has never been so wide. And you are saying the influence of labor unions ought to be even further reduced ?You blame them for the problems .You blame the victims of this crisis for it .THe problem with your flawed economical theories is that they don't stand the test of truth, they only serve to transfer more money from the poor to the rich by blaming the poor for poverty.

Tonny has point here. Real wages have fallen a lot. He is also right about the price of consumer goods falling. This has happened for two reasons. The most important one being is the gross exploitation of Chinese labor. The second reason is the gross exploitation of illegal immigrants coming across our southern border. The upshot is that people have been maintaining their lifestyles by using their credit cards too much.

Now all those chickens are coming home to roost. There is no doubt about it.

If someone is unhappy about falling real earnings, and think China is the culprit, go see who the folks were who greenlighted their trade with us. Go find the folks who got them MFN, then find out why. Also find out about the manufacturing they've chased away for 30 years.

Hint: Go ask Hillary's husband. Go ask Obama abouit his comments to Illinois farmers and to Canada.

Everyone loves a meritocracy until they cannot compete. Go ask yourselves what you want and then take steps to get it.

I'm a republican. No matter what you think about them, they are honest about what they believe in and have articulated it, consistantly. The dems?....see the above. They again, are not being honest with you.

Of all the junk posted on this board by SP4, this has to be the funniest:

'I'm a republican. No matter what you think about them, they are honest about what they believe in and have articulated it, consistantly. The dems?....see the above. They again, are not being honest with you.'

Truth, lie---and a big joke. Funny that you of all people accuse others of 'not being honest with you'. I find it hard to believe that you can even spell honest.

...but that does not make me wrong.

The republicans have, consistantly, advocated free trade, adviertised that they advocated it, and then explained why.

And they were right.

What dildo boy above either forgot, or never heard were all the liberals 15 years ago saying the same thing.

And they, too, were right.

Now if that makes the bed wetter above uncomfy, so be it. Nonetheless, the republicans are not out running for cover on the issue, not even McCain republicans.

The dems, on the other hand, are now parading Nafta a someone else's turd, while going to farms and Canada and saying 'hey! We love Nafta!'

Figure it out, boner boy.

RE:'Everyone loves a meritocracy until they cannot compete. Go ask yourselves what you want and then take steps to get it.'

Would that we were in fact living in a 'meritocracy'. We most certainly are NOT and we are especially NOT dealing with 'meritocracy' when we are talking about our trade relationship with the Chinese. We are faced with two COMPLETELY different sets of rules. Employers do whatever they damned well please to Chinese labor. In the States, employers pretty much do whatever they damned well please to illegal immigrants. Get it? Two completely DIFFERENT sets of rules. If you are a US citizen, your employer has a completely DIFFERENT set of rules to live with when he or she hires you. Those rules cost Him or Her a bundle of money. That makes YOUR labor far more costly than the labor of some poor misbegotten Chinaman or nearly hapless illegal alien. This set up HURTS EVERYBODY!

Now I am an independent rather than a Gooper and I became independent the day the Bushbaby agreed with giving China MFN.

Just for the record I will reiterate. Not nary another Bush! Not nary another Clinton. It is time to run both bunches off with a willow switch.

SP4: Deja VuMar 10th, 2008 - 20:18:42

We made that argument 15 years ago, too. I would agree. Having said that, like it or not we are stil, to some extent, living in some sort of Meritocracy.

Fair....?

One has to agree that the more skills you possess, the greater the chance of prosperity, unlike many other places on the globe.

Do illegal immigrints impact the work force? Sure they do. Are they driving employment in America?

No.

We no longer have the luxury of being dominnant in manufacturing. The world wants prosperity, like we have. It's market maturity, plain and simple.

'It's market maturity, plain and simple.'

A mature market would calculate all costs/benefits into the 'price.'
This is not the case. Third world imports are grossly under priced.

An unemployed US worker does not pay his mortgage, does not buy food, clothing, etc. He can't buy a car. Tax dollars go to supporting him and his family. A lawn mower made in China does produce higher returns for the company stockholders, but I'm not sure if it is really 'better' for the average US citizen.

There can be no efficiently functioning free market without fair rules that level the playing field for all participants.

An ubdate from the Obama/Rezco trialMar 11th, 2008 - 00:55:14

OBAMA TOOK THREE TIMES WHAT HE HAS ADMITTED TO TAKING!!!!!!!:

Indicted Chicago fixer Antoin 'Tony' Rezko and his cronies contributed at least three times more to Barack Obama over the years than the candidate has admitted:

During his 12 years in politics, Sen. Barack Obama has received nearly three times more campaign cash from indicted businessman Tony Rezko and his associates than he has publicly acknowledged, the Chicago Sun-Times has found.

Obama has collected at least $168,308 from Rezko and his circle. Obama also has taken in an unknown amount of money from people who attended fund-raising events hosted by Rezko since the mid-1990s.

But seven months ago, Obama told the Sun-Times his 'best estimate' was that Rezko raised 'between $50,000 and $60,000' during Obama's political career.
Obama, who wants to be the nation's next president, has been purging some of those donations -- giving charities more than $30,000 he got from Rezko and three of his business partners referenced in Rezko's federal indictments. All three attended a lavish fund-raiser Rezko hosted for Obama four years ago.

Don't tell Obama supporters. They might get the idea their new messiah is just some ordinary politician dealing with scam artists and crooks.
