Tennessee: Tornadoes close poll stations

Washington - Tornadoes swept through the mid-South late Tuesday, killing at least four people and closing election polls in four counties of western Tennessee, a local newspaper reported. One death occurred in Tennessee and a tornado swept through the city of Memphis, the city's Commerical Appeal daily newspaper reported online. CNN reported that 90 people were injured. Earlier in the day, tornadoes swept through Arkansas, with three deaths confirmed by Pope County sheriff Jay Winters, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported. The voting stations were closed early amidst the frenzy of the largest presidential party primary vote in US history, where voters in 24 states were picking their favoured nominee. Senator Hillary Clinton, 60, leads the Democratic ballot in Tennessee. On the Republican side, Senator John McCain, 71, and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, 52, were neck and neck for the prize of delegates to the party convention.
