'The will of the American People will not stand. We will push this legislation through no matter what...don't they understand I've already been paid for this?'

What are we paying these idiots for if they can't get any legislation done? Have some debate, make some changes, get it passed. Yet another unfortunate symptom of a broken system.

Since when breaking the law illegally, become legal. this's just one of many examples. it's a matter of principles.

Thank goodness this got defeated. 78% of the American people disapproved of this legislation.

Secure the border first, ship these illegals back to Mexico, and expand LEGAL immigration.

Great news, but stay awake. They'll try to sneak it in again and Bush will be on the warpath to get revenge.

Ok, I will go back to my home country, but do it now, I cannot wait to go back so that you can wash your dishes, mow your lawn, cook your food and care for your kids.

The easiest way to stop the problem is to take a tactic from Disneyland. In order to get everybody to go home at the end of the night, they don't need an army of policemen. They just turn off the rides. If we were to turn off the benefits that are extended to illegal aliens, they would self-deport. The Constitution requires our government to secure our borders against invasion. The president and congress must be told to follow the Constitution.

I guess everyone missed the fact that along w/ allowing those to legalize their status, they would have had to pay thousands of dollars in penalty fees, pay back ALL back taxes, register and go through criminal background checks, and maybe...they might be approved to be a green card holder.

Instead, we have the current system which encourages people to go underground, pay no taxes, pay no penalties, and have no way of tracking them. How does that improve our national security?

Everyone is so hung up on this amnesty thing that they don't bother to read the details to really makes it not an amnesty at all. Amnesty implies a free ride...this bill was anything BUT a free ride. It would have increased our Border Patrol by 20,000 plus new officers, build new ways, fund new programs to catch illegal immigrants and in general help us track millions of formally illegal immigrants and possible future terrorists. It would have force everyone to go through background checks in which we would deport all the criminal illegal aliens.

It's ironic that all the Republican Senators who voted to kill this bill come from states that don't have a lot of illegal immigrants. (Kansas, Iowa, South Carolina, to name a few) They obviously don't see the problems of having 12 million plus illegal immigrants creating an underground economy. Ship them all out? LOL. Ok, so who's going to pick your crops? Who's going to mow your lawn? Who's going to nanny your kids? Who's going to build your houses? Get real folks, if there's a dirty job that American's don't want, someone has to do it and we all know who we're going to call to get our lawns mowed, our pools cleaned, our roofs fixed, etc...

The spirit of compromise which was embodied in this bill has been abandoned for the partisan bickering which will keep America frozen in time. If the only way to pass a bill in this new polarized country is to get a 60 man majority nothing will get done. Also voting against cloture is NOT a vote against a bill. When healthy debate is used to kill a bill everyone looses. By the way, does anyone remember when the Republicans, who oppose this bill and are blatantly avoiding a straight up or down vote, were saying that the Democrats owed the American people an up or down vote. They tried to have this quaint constitutional tidbit abolished.

How about a law that fines anyone who hires an illegal 250,000 dollars.I think that would send some people home.No job,no reason to stay.

This bill was a mockery of rule by law. First, authorize and fund the manpower we need to handle the law abiding applications we currently need to process. Second, make sure that each applicant is vetted to eliminate criminals, terrorists and other undesirables. For non-citizens who support terrorost Islamic operations here in the USA,don't allow them citizenship. For those becoming citizens, make citizenship contingent on never in the past, present, or future supporting, aiding or abetting terrorist activities in the USA. Make citizenship retroactively null and void for those who declare their support or do support terrorism in the USA.

Benefits?
Illegal immigrants can not get welfare, medicare, medicaid, food stamps, and every federal program on the books.

The only thing that local states cover is health check ups for pregnant women and that's a public policy concern. We certainly don't want innocent babies being born on the streets of Hometown, USA do we? Oh, and free public education. How is that bad? Do we REALLY want millions of illegal immigrant children running around the streets because they can't goto school? Once again, its a public policy issue.

I forgot to mention Social Security. It's no secret that at the current rate, its going to run out. I'm surprised no one in the press picked this up, but *shrug* 12 million plus people paying all back taxes, SS, medicaid/medicare would probably pay for quite a lot of things that we are currently over budget. Not to mention keep Social Security running for just a bit longer.

Numerous gov't agencies were salivating at the bit at the numbers of tax dollars that was going to be rolling in. I'd say, the benefits to Americans on a long term would have far outweighed a few public policy 'benefits' that illegal immigrants received.

Just as my grandfather did, the new immigrants should have to stand in line and pay their dues. The american people as a majority I feel, don't have a problem with them entering our great nation but how it is being done is the true problem.
