I think Donald Rumsfield did a lousy job as Defense Sec. I think he lied to the people of America and their families. I think he and Dick Cheney both devoled a plan for this war before 9/11 ever happened. And maybe 9/11 was part of the whole plan. It all sounds criminal doesn't it. God will deal with George Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfield in a way they will feel the all pain that they put on all the innocent people of Irac and Americans.
George
Yes George, and by the way you write you sound very educated, perhaps you should govern the free world. Learn to spell 'Iraq', 'Developed', and not start sentences with 'And' and perhaps somebody will take you seriously. Good Lord the internet is full of idiots....
'We've been through war together' says a man who has never been to war.
Bill,
Perhaps you have not seen the photos of Donald Rumsfeld pulling wounded Americans from the Pentagon on 9/11. That's closer to war than most of us have ever been.
It is impossible to fight and win a war with limited ideas and methods. Imagine what it is like for a so called insurgent when they no longer fear our soldiers but rather' they realize our vulnerabilities and then learn to exploit them through audacity and violent methods such as IED. It's not a nice scenario to face on the ground.
To put this in perspective, imagine how you feel when you see a police officer. Most of us recognize the authority they have and respect it, but what if you saw the officer as a juicy target? It definitely changes the rules and how the players are going to perceive and react to one another. This is the basic situation for our troops on the ground that are functioning as reactionary occupying forces. It is not working for us and we should adopt a more aggressive and substantialy larger capability.
We must take the offensive to the enemy. I recommend a general offensive against the Sunni and Shia forces that are primarily involved in the attempt to overthrow the moderate government that the United States is working with in Iraq. That's just an opinion, and we all have one.
The Secretary Of Defence did what he thought best with the situations as they were happening, and also with the intelligence given to him. The next secretary will do the same, but possibly with different methods and outcomes.
A warning for you now Rummy...
Now that you're not part of the administration and protected from on high, you better watch out because the lawyers are gonna get you for war crimes, and crimes against humanity!! (to name a few)
The next party we'll see you at is the one where you dance at the end of a rope!
'We must take the offensive to the enemy. I recommend a general offensive against the Sunni and Shia forces that are primarily involved in the attempt to overthrow the moderate government that the United States is working with in Iraq. That's just an opinion, and we all have one.'
They never where the enemy. They had nothing to do with 9/11 or TERRAR. We attacked them and killed half a million while displacing another two million. After we toppled Saddam's gov. (while cruel and brutal it was the only thing holding back the sectarian blood shed) we had no plan to put the civil system back together. Those people have been killing eachother before moses was burning the bush with god. Now our army is sitting in the middle of their country getting popped at and there's zero plan, even since 'MISSION ACOMPLISHED', as to what the heck were supposed to do with this mess.
Bush says 'Stay the course' but has yet to elaborate exactly what the course is.
We HAVE been going offensive on the 'insurgents' but that just makes them more pist at us. Even if we weren't there they would still be killing each other.
'for war crimes, and crimes against humanity'
Yes ignore the vast majority of real ' war crimes, and crimes against humanity' and go after a some politician because he is in the news .
no if they can get that other peice of crap to leave. america might have a fighting chance. impeach followed by prison
John: I see your point, and agree with the fact that these people have been at this for a long time. I also agree that Saddam had a better grip on the situation, but the fact remains. This administration has committed itself to a specific course of action: I.E. to support the moderate Islamic government. So either we get out, or we commit to a larger overall scenario, that is employed to facilitate a clear and concise victory, 'that ensures the survival' of the moderate regime, and American interest's in the area.
We did this, and we must finish it for the sake of those people who get up everyday and go out to work and try to feed their family's. A Father and Mother with four kids and a mortgage are not that different from us, nor do they love their children any less. They deserve the peace of mind and security, and frankly so do we. Unfortunately in either case' more lives and prosperity are going to be lost. John McCain put it plainly to the American public when he said, and I quote'
'War is an inherently ugly business, so lets get on with it'.
'The Americans Brought Electricity to My Ass Before They Brought it to My House.' ~ former Guantanamo detainee.
This is exactly what Rummy deserves for the rest of his remaining life.
He should be locked up in Gitmo to taste in own medicine.
History will look more favorably upon him than the present. Just the way these things go. 'Warcrimes' and 'imprisonment' are some of the most intellectually disingenuous phrases to add to his job performance. Fact is, you can't predict the future, nor can you control what other people do. While it will be good to get a new perspective into the situation, verbally bashing him on his way out means nothing.
How quickly we forget that when Clinton was in the 'oral' office, the WTC was hit the first time, th Cole was hit, as well as other strikes against America that his administration put a bandaid on by striking at some obscure, irrelevant target to look like he actually gave a $#@%. I urge everyone to read the book, 'Dereliction of Duty' written by the man who toted around the nuclear football for a 'Commander in Chief' who never wore the uniform, who along with his hag fishwife, had and has to this day, a total disdain for our finest citizens in the military. We forget that the reason our army is struggling is that the Democrats under Clinton downsized our forces by hundreds of thousands. Bush inherited a mindset that people like John Kerry, Murtha, and others like Iran's current Hitler wannabe have for America; liberal socialism. George Bush has done more to restore the integrity and pride of our selfless serving military than anyone since Ronald Reagan. I can say that with certainty, after retiring with 20yrs on active duty.
If this country in 2008,has devolved to the point of actually considering a Hillary/ Obama ticket for the white house, we might as well start taking classes on how to speak arabic as a first language.
An old man took on the task of stopping the killing of you, your children and families. He did it, and did it extremely well. Not one of you liberal lefties could have done anything to stop it. All you can do is open your big mouths and hollar at the man who may have saved your lives. You would be cowering in your basements crying for help had Rummy not been there to protect you. Now that he has retired why don't you go back to your other agendas of killing the unborn, taking Christ out of Christmas, smoking your dope, emphasizing gay over straight marriage and the other perversions in which you are engaged. And to many of you, please return to high school and learn to write.
In a world where most of us do not have a clue as to what is really going on in a war like no other, I think it is presumptuous for most to think they can judge Rumsfeld's performance. We can say that we appreciate his service to our great nation and wish him Godspeed. Thank you for your service Mr. Rumsfeld.
Donald Rumsfeld in his farewell address warned the USA about rogue regimes and unstable dictators who threaten to attack, how strange then that not that long ago, he was selling arms to Sadam Hussein to kill Iranians and also to the fighters how later became the Taliban to kill Russians in Afganistan. People like him who achieve power and prestige ( well only in certain circles ) should surely undergoe psychiatric testing befre they cause more death and destruction and he also suggests that the USA should spend more of its taxpayers money on arms, when we know the USA has enough weaponry to blow us all to kingdom come. God help us.
Sam Watts UK
Don, don ,don, he did his best. Just didn't listen to the right people. He really didn't do this on his own.Donny just took some bad advise and all of America is paying for it. One man, boy, it's unreal.
Sam, I noticed the 'UK' in your username. Your critique is amusing, considering that the current mess in the middle east is product of British imperialism.
While we are on the subject, the people of Africa can thank French, Belgian, and Dutch colonialism for their troubled state.
Lest we forget the world record holder for mass slaughter, Germany.
Thank God for leaders like George Bush and Donald Rumsfeld who are courageous enough to advance freedom, liberty, and human rights to the whole world.
Jim, to you I say, I don't know what's worse... an American liberal, or a European.
craig ...are you nuts .? or just a lover of a murdering oil loveing president

Thie first step in thinking clearly and solving a problem is to define your terms. Mushy language such as 'war on terror' only leads to confusion and mushy non-thinking.
War is a condition of violent hostility between states. Terror is an emotion.
The word 'war' has ben made almost meaningless because it has been abused to refer to the pet campaigns of politicians. First was 'War on Communism' then 'War on poverty' then 'War on drugs' *yawn*. Wasted words. Communism is a philosophy and economic theory (look it up). Poverty and drug use are social conditions. Terror is an emotion. You do not fight emotions with warfare.
Deliberate and planned misuse of language is well described by George Orwell in his 'Nineteen Eighty Four'. When you confuse and blur the thinking of the people you can more easily keep them manipulated and subjugated.
