One of the really big problems I have is that several federal agencies have never been particularly well behaved, starting with the FBI. While it cannot be denied that the FBI has done a great deal of good over the years, it also cannot be denied that it has done outright evil as well. The schizophrenic behavior of the FBI goes all the way back to J. Edgar Hoover who was a raving lunatic and incompetent. The BATF has proven itself to be considerably less than reliable and more than a little unstable. Hoover very often sandbagged incriminating evidence on political figures so that he could use it against them at a time of his choosing. What he should have done, given the nature of his duty, was to have prosecuted those people thereby limiting the damage they were doing. From what I can see, these habits remain with the FBI.
