As a TV writer, I wish I had a home equity line of credit to draw from. I'm tired of hearing that only the below-the-line people are going to suffer here. I had to walk away from my only work of the year, have about three months worth of savings with which to pay my rent, and am completely screwed after that. So, please, let's not pretend that all writers are just going to go hang out in their second homes and play with their money. This is hurting a lot of us... but we all, including crew members, CHOSE to get into this less than secure industry in the first place.
Hey Kitty, cry me a river.
...you joined a union to get better treatment from your bosses, but the fact is, your union leaders screwed up, failing to note the alternatives that the bosses have at their disposal. Typical, the uinions are worse representative of your value than yourselves. You'd do better to can the unions.
My union is screwed up enough but note that when we were threatening action on run-away production and asking for decent working hours after the death of a camera assistant (Brent Hershman)we had no support from the writers.
Perhaps if you worried about writing better scripts instead of getting every penny for them the rest would take care of itself.
