Teenager stabbed at Notting Hill Carnival - more than 200 arrests

London - British police made more than 200 arrests at London's annual Notting Hill Carnival festival, which also left a 15- year-old boy with serious knife stab wounds in hospital, Scotland Yard said Tuesday. The three-day festival, billed as Europe's biggest street party, was attended by an estimated 750,000 people over a long weekend which included a public holiday Monday. Chief Inspector Jo Edwards said the 222 arrests included 38 people stopped by officers at Victoria station in central London. A bulletproof vest and a knife were recovered from members of the group who were arrested. 'We believe they were coming to the carnival to commit acts of crime and disorder,' she said. However, this year's crime figures were down on those in 2008, when 280 people were arrested. Most people were held for public order and drugs offences. The 15-year-old, who was found with several stab wounds Monday evening, was in stable condition in hospital while investigations into the attack were continuing.
