The republic renewed their calls for the monarch to be abolished. One of their criteria is that we give power over the queen to the state, not the public. I'd take their recommendations with a grain of salt, it gives nothing to the people, only higher government income and greater power to central government. If you think £40 million is bad, consider this comment by the Junior Work and Pensions Minister 'More than £57m in benefits were paid to dead people in 2006'..!

A minimum £1800 Million of our contribution to the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy bails out farmers in France and other Euro nations.

The Queen contributes to the UK Economy in a multitude of ways that we no longer recognise because so many of us have been sat in front of the telly watching Noel Edmonds grow old that we really have forgotten our history. That continued legacy drives economy and finances to this country, her own estates drive tourism that feeds businesses and individuals up and down London. Her Estate, worth over £1.3 Billion, is now managed by the Government, as is it's £245 Million in Revenue. If the queen asked for her real worth, £400 Million would not be too large a sum.
I and many other readers will have noticed a large proportion of our press parroting on the 'we no longer want a monarch' line; the business and right wing oriented being the loudest amongst the crowd.
Do not be fooled that this is the will of the public. This is the will of a tiny minority of greedy individuals, playing to public ignorance with the help of the manipulation apparatus that is currently our beloved press.
The Brittish royal family are the laziest people on earth. They don't hold jobs and they take money from the people. This is madness. Let them go find real jobs these lazy bastards! Beginning with that fat ugly queen.
