Pick your own is great!
The trick is for the farmer to make each person buy a basket on the way in. It should cost more than similar size in store, but buyer gets to eat all he wants as he picks, plus of coarse fresh berries.
The kids love it.
The farmer should make out well because even with eating and wastage he ought to make as much as wholesale.
Seriously folks...
We have a strawberry farm here in America where I live that does that, and even 1 and 2 year old children have to pay for a bucket before being allowed in the fields. That way, when the kids eat them, stomp on them, or pull the plants out of the ground, they're paid for.

More annd more farmers in England and Wales UK, sadly, according to DEFRA, are ending 'Pick-your-Own'
My local farmer Chris gave me his break-down figures for Raspberries and Strawberries.
One third trampled or ruined.
One third eaten and
One third paid for....
....A field full of fruit or vegtables is NOT a playground for 'Townies' and their kids.
