London - Women dispensing with their knickers under a summer dress, or those with a weakness for bare midriffs, mini skirts and spaghetti straps will come under scrutiny by the 'fashion police' at this year's Royal Ascot horse race in Britain starting Tuesday. EPA/ALAN CROWHURSTOrganizers of the five-day event, attended by Queen Elizabeth II, have had a reminder with their invitations that formal dress is required for what is the most important social and sporting occasion of the year in Britain, reports said Tuesday. Stewards in the Royal Enclosure will keep a closer than usual eye on ladies revealing bare bottoms should their skirts be lifted by a gust of wind, or those taking to wearing off-the-shoulder dresses and halter necks. Rules determine that women have to wear formal day dress, with a hat or fascinator, while off-the-shoulder dresses, halter necks, spaghetti straps and mini skirts are all forbidden. Men have to wear black or grey morning suits, including a waistcoat, along with a top hat. Those trying to bend the rules have created a stir over the past few years, and will be subjected to a closer look as they enter the gates to the race at Ascot, just south of London. 'I always look forward to Royal Ascot. There is something 'other- worldly' about being in the Royal Enclosure with everyone dressed in their finery and - one hopes - on their best behaviour as a guest of the queen,' said fashion critic James Sherwood, who is reporting on the race for the BBC.

What is so interesting about some people trying to dress stupidly in a field while gambling and drinking? Its not even like they are amusing.

Let's get about 20 ladies in fancy dresses, no underwear. Then moon the whole crowd! Uppity stuffed shirts. They need to join the 21st century, that kind of dressing for a frickin' horse race is ridiculous. Especially the top hats. Who on this planet still wears top hats anyway?
