Maybe if they allowed the landlord to choose if his pub was a smoking or Non-smoking pub the people would support them more. I stopped going to bars in the US because I wasn't allowed to smoke in any of them.

I'm not suggesting smokey old pubs. Use air filtration, put signs up stating 'This is a smoking establishement, enter at your own risk.' But let the people choose, not the government.
