India's Supreme Court to decide on homosexuality

New Delhi - India's Supreme Court agreed on Thursday to hear a challenge to a recent High Court decision which legalized homosexuality, the news agency PTI reported. The High Court in Delhi on July 2 overturned a law dating from colonial times which outlawed homosexual practices, ruling that it was unconstitutional. A legal challenge to the decision argues that gay sex is unnatural and allowing it would promote the spread of AIDS. Gays and lesbians welcomed the decision of the High Court legalizing homosexuality but Hindu, Muslim and Christian groups condemned the ruling. The case is scheduled to begin on July 20.

This have been a hot issue for a long time in all developed world.But Delhi Court's ruling should not pre-empt Legislature,social bodies,local custom,religious believes.Court should not beyound its juridiction of gurdian of Common law & Natural justice.Gay sex is abnormal- genetic abberation.People should not be punished as criminal,neither legal bodies lent its approval as a saviour of our concience.JRB
