Danish national killed in Islamabad blast identified

Copenhagen - A Danish national killed in a suspected suicide bomb attack on a hotel in the Pakistani capital Islamabad over the weekend has been identified, the Danish security and intelligence service PET has said. DNA tests have established that the deceased was police officer Karsten Krabbe, the PET said in a statement issued late Wednesday. The suicide bombing on Saturday at the five-star Marriott hotel claimed more than 50 lives. Krabbe, 53, had been deployed to review security measures for the Danish embassy in Pakistan that was targeted in a blast in June. The June embassy blast claimed six lives. Since then the PET, the Danish Foreign Ministry and other agencies have been reviewing security measures. The PET recently said the June bombing was likely committed by al- Qaeda. Denmark's involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as the publication of controversial caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed in Danish newspapers was seen as a possible motive for the attack.
