Singh government wins trust vote in parliament (Extra)

New Delhi - India's Congress party-led government won the parliamentary confidence vote on Tuesday that was seen as crucial to the fate of a civilian nuclear deal with the United States. The confidence motion moved by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh received 275 votes, with 256 against, in the Indian parliament with a strength of 541 members. Ten lawmakers abstained. The results were announced by Speaker Somnath Chatterjee. The vote was called after the United Progressive Alliance's (UPA) communist partners withdrew their support in protest at the nuclear accord, which they say could impinge on India's strategic sovereignty.
