Two Polish soldiers killed in Afghan mine explosion

Warsaw - Two Polish soldiers were killed Tuesday in a mine explosion in Afghanistan, a military spokesman said in broadcast remarks. Their armoured vehicle drove onto a buried, high-power explosive mine, the spokesman told broadcaster TVN 24. A third member of the unit suffered minor injuries. The soldiers were on their way back to their base Szarana in Paktika Province after carrying out a humanitarian mission. They were there 'for the right purpose' and had been defending Afghanistan from insurgent, erosive forces, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski wrote in his letters to the families. The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) includes around 1,200 Polish soldiers. Poland is planning to send an additional 400 soldiers to ISAF in the course of the spring.
