Taliban say they have released 2 South Koreans (Extra)

Kabul - Taliban kidnappers announced Monday that they released two female South Korean hostages from among the 21 South Koreans still being held since last month's kidnapping in Afghanistan. Taliban spokesman Qari Mohammad Yousaf Ahmadi told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa that the two women were released in the Andar district in the southern province of Ghazni. There was no official confirmation from Afghan authorities yet of the Taliban claim The disclosure followed shortly on Taliban's announcement that a release of the two women, both of whom were in ill health, was imminent. A total of 23 South Korean Christian health workers were snatched last month while travelling in the eastern Ghazni province on the main road from Kabul to Kandahar. The group demanded the release of Taliban prisoners in exchange for their hostages. Two of the five male hostages were executed when deadlines elapsed for the release of the Taliban prisoners. © 2007 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
