The bodies of Katharina Koller, 25, and Peter Kirsten Rabitsch, 28, were discovered Monday in an unmarked grave in the capital La Paz. They died of asphyxiation, prosecutor Sergio Cespedes said.
Koller was found with no outward sign of injury and packing tape over her nose and mouth, the Unitel television channel reported.
Koller and Rabitsch were on a trip around the world when they disappeared on January 26 after arriving at La Paz's bus station. Police discovered the bodies after arresting several suspected gang members.
Family members said some 12,500 euros (15,300 dollars) were withdrawn from the pair's accounts after they disappeared.
The two had been dead for between 45 and 60 days, Cespedes said Tuesday. Forensic experts used dental records to confirm their identity, said police official Celso Zurita.
