Sana'a, Yemen - A Yemeni state security court on Monday sentenced to death a man convicted of detonating a hand grenade in a crowd of university students in the capital Sana'a in February.

Two students were killed and 25 injured in the February 2 attack. One student died at the scene while the other died of his injuries in hospital.

The convicted man, Muhammad Haasn al-Wajeeh, 30, was also ordered to pay compensation to 25 students for injuries they sustained in the attack. The level of compensation is to be estimated later by a separate panel.

The attacker threw the grenade at a group of students gathered at a bus stop outside the university's main gate during the morning rush hour.

He was arrested on the spot and investigations showed a personal motive related to a dispute with one of the people in the crowd.
