Jordan shuts down offices of two Iranian satellite TVs

Amman - Jordanian authorities on Thursday ordered the closure of the Amman offices of two Iranian satellite channels, citing their failure to obtain licenses. The Iranian channels al-Alam and Press TV were ordered to stop reporting from Jordan 'because they have not been officially registered with the concerned authorities', Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communication Nabil Sharif said. 'The correspondents of al-Alam TV are not registered, while the license of the personnel working with the Press TV expired a month ago and they did not apply for renewal,' he added. Jordan is one of the moderate Arab states which share Western powers in having reservations over Iran's growing influence in the region. King Abdullah II warned a few years ago against the emergence of a 'Shiite crescent' that involves Iran, Iraq, Syria and Hezbollah militias in Lebanon.
