EU trio has shown its enmity toward Iran, chief of staff says

Tehran - The European Union members Britain, France and Germany have made their hostility toward Iran clear with their recent 'ridiculous interference' in its internal affairs, Iran's chief of staff said Wednesday. 'The EU [trio] has had ridiculous interference in the presidential election, and their enmity with the Iranian nation is now clarified,' General Hassan Firouzabadi was quoted by the Fars news agency as saying. The three EU states are accused by Iran of insulting the Iranian nation by doubting the results of the June 12 presidential election, showing sympathy with demonstrators who alleged election fraud and not yet acknowledging the re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. 'The EU trio has lost its credibility within the 5+1 group, and, therefore, is no longer qualified to negotiate with Iran,' the general added. The three EU members - together with the United States, Russia and China - make up the 5+1 and have been involved in negotiations with Iran over its nuclear programmes. The Iranian Foreign Ministry and parliament are evaluating a revision of diplomatic relations with the EU trio as well as Italy. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hassan Ghashghavi, however, said last week that Tehran was not after 'diplomatic adventurism.'
