Lebanon accuses Israel of violating UN resolution

Beirut - Lebanon Tuesday accused the Israeli army - through shooting at the main road linking the southern Lebanese border villages of Adeisseh and Kfar Killa - of violating a UN resolution. 'The shooting by Israeli soldiers on the road of Adeisseh is a violation of the UN resolution 1701,' a statement by the Lebanese army command said. It said an Israeli border patrol fired machinegun rounds toward Adeisseh, and five bullets lodged into a street wall about 20 meters from the UN blue line separating Lebanese and Israeli borders. There were no casualties, it added. UN spokeswoman Yasmina Bouziyian said the peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon initiated contacts with both sides after reports of gunshots from the Israeli side at the town of Adeisseh. UN Resolution 1701 ended 33 days of hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel in July, 2006. It also called for disarmament of all armed groups in Lebanon.
