Jordan's king pledges to work with Obama for Mideast peace

Amman- King Abdullah II of Jordan on Monday pledged to work with US President Barack Obama on an amicable settlement between the Palestinians and Israel, and urged an early involvement of the new US administration in the Middle East peace process. The monarch made the remarks during separate meetings with the chairman of the US Senate's Foreign Relations Committee, John Kerry, and a US congressional delegation currently touring the region, the royal court said. 'The monarch expressed his readiness to work with President Barack Obama to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East,' a royal court statement said. He also urged the US administration 'to take speedy steps towards launching serious negotiations that put the Arab-Israeli conflict on the track of a solution in accordance with the two-state formula, which is indispensable for arriving at peace and stability in the region.' In addition to Jordan, Kerry would also visit Syria, Egypt, Israel and the Palestinian territories.
