Seems al-Maliki has finally come to his senses and realizes the loss of Iraqi lives and the devastation of Iraq will continue as long as the US remains in control of Iraq. al-Maliki wants a short term agreement with the US which specifies a timetable for US troops to withdraw from Iraq. Hopefully, al-Maliki won't be intimidated by the US into signing a long term agreement, since the daily killing and devastation in Iraq will worsen with continued US presence in that country. marge.
Marge, What good would 'telling the US to get out' actually do? You firmly believe that the US invaded Iraq to oppress the people and steal their oil.
If that is the case, why would we care what the Iraqis do or say?
It will be great if the Iraqis have actually reached an accomodation and can handle their own security.
As much as I don't really want to, I have to agree with SP4 on this one. He probably has a different reason for his statement, but regardless, I hope Bush goes with it.
'Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said Monday he was seeking a short-term memorandum of understanding for a US troop withdrawal instead of a long-term agreement in ongoing talks on the presence of those forces in Iraq.'
Take the deal and let's vacation elsewhere.
