Jordanian man kills six people, including his three children

Amman - Jordanian police have arrested a 35-year-old man who confessed to six murders, including his three children, the Public Security Department spokesman Major Mohammad Khatib said Friday. The suspect, whose identity has been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations, 'confessed, re-enacted the murders and directed us to the weapon used in the murder', he added. The victims included the suspect's three children aged five to eight who were found stabbed to death in two rooms of their house at town of Abu Alanda, 30 kilometres east of Amman. The other three victims were the wife of the suspect's neighbour and her two children aged two and three, who were stabbed in their own house beside the suspect's home. Criminal prosecutor Tareq Shuqeirat said that the authorities were unable so far to determine the motive for the gruesome murders which have shocked Jordanian society. However, preliminary reports indicated that differences between the suspect and his wife prompted the suspect to commit the crimes. His wife was at her family's home when the murders occurred, police sources said. The suspect apparently targeted his neighbour's wife because she had earlier told her mother that the suspect had beaten the children, sources said. Other sources suggested that the suspect tried to sexually assault his neighbour's wife during his absence but failed, so he decided to kill everyone to conceal it.
