Ahmadinejad attends hajj as first Iranian president

Tehran - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad left Tehran on Monday for Saudi Arabia to attend the annual hajj ceremony, Tehran media reported. Fars news agency quoted a presidential spokesman as saying that Ahmadinejad is the first Iranian president officially invited by the Saudi kingdom to do the annual Muslim ritual. Besides the hajj ceremony, Ahmadinejad will also hold talks with Saudi officials on regional and global issues, the reports said. Ahmadinejad has already been in Saudi Arabia twice since his presidency in August 2005 but the first time within the official hajj season. © 2007 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
