Kidnappers of German in Iraq offer new ultimatum

Washington - The kidnappers of a German citizen in Iraq have given the German government 10 days to pull out of Afghanistan in order to secure the man's release, according to a video obtained by a US intelligence group Monday night. The two-minute, 44-second long video shows Sinan Krause and his mother Hannelore, who were both kidnapped by an Iraqi group calling itself the Arrows of Righteousness Brigades at the beginning of the year. Hannelore, a long-time resident of Baghdad with her husband, was released July 10 after more than five months, but her 20-year-old son remains in captivity. The video is the third to be released by the captors, according to the Alexandria, Virginia-based Intel Centre which has the tape. The centre also released still pictures from the video, one of which shows Hannelore clad in a head-scarf, crying and pressing her son's head against her. © 2007 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
