Iran discovers five new spy networks

Tehran - Iran discovered five new espionage networks allegedly linked to Western intelligence services, Fars news agency reported Monday. Twenty people from five networks have been arrested, Fars quoted the head of the intelligence service in Kermanshah, western Iran, as saying, but he declined to give further details. Last May, Iran had claimed that spy networks with alleged links to United States circles in Iraq had been smashed in the west, south- west and central Iran. At that time, Tehran had said the spy networks were supported by some groups in Iraq with the aim of expanding their activities to five provinces in west and southwest Iran and to the capital. Since then, no further information about the spy networks has become available. Iran has in recent years frequently accused the US and Britain of involvement in acts of sabotage in the country.
