London dismisses report of British action in Basra (Extra)

London - The British government Thursday dismissed reports from Basra claiming that British troops had surrounded the Iranian consulate in the southern Iraqi port. The report, by Arabic television station al-Arabiya, was 'absurd,' a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in London said. 'There was a routine foot patrol in Basra, they didn't even know the consulate was there. They came under fire from a passing vehicle and they returned fire.
